Good Morning everybody. So today this video will show you how to identify glass fill ruby within 30 seconds. Now, there can be many different types of treatments in Ruby, mostly heating and glass filling. Heating is fairly simple and mostly disclosed.
Now, However if you are a wholesaler buying a parcel of ruby or a retailer and want to test at your own level for glass fill ruby, this video is perfect for this cause. Here we have taken a few pieces of Glass fill ruby from Thailand. The best and the fastest way to identify is the surface.
If you see cracks, holes coming out of the surface, polish problems, then this is likely glass fill, because glass enters the stone through the surface to remove the inclusions and bring out better color. Characteristics of glass fill ruby usually are needles, pits, holes, surface problems, cracks.
Now lets take a few more pieces. Of course we are looking at lots here, if you need to be sure of the single pieces, then should go to the local gem laboratory. But for lots this is a good fast technique.

Nice! I have one looks just like but believe authentic. Some tiny wear spot but no bubbles really and crack like appearances. I was thinking Ruby but something else I saw and pink Sapphire, as well a chance Sapphire? Nice nevertheless.

@Navneet Gems thank you for getting back with. I will definitely hold onto and keep for more looking into. I just know have had in small jewellers case probably 12 or a little more years and unsure where even picked up. I remember was seeing something with helping some in Africa I think and was showing little of Sapphire possibly.. Or may got mixed up while was looking at Burma Ruby's and maybe spotted alike pink Sapphire, noneless beautiful gems. Thank you for response!

Some other fillers used to fill cracks inclusions colored red lead glass filler or fissures filled with borax heated ruby shavings(residues) or another color enhancement besides dyes and oils(fake forged gem certificates) is berrillium diffusion a ruby or sapphire crystal can be grown in a lab with bernoulli fusion(Chomium aluminum etc melted in a stone cooking oven into a cylinder shape makes the lab rough that can be faceted into stones) this same process cooks perfect lab ruby on the outside of a lesser quality natural stone making it look nicer but the coating isn't very thick.

I have a clear one (7.6 carats) and it's so durable but the only problem is it's getting dirty so fast and i scratched it with another ruby before and it has one tiny bubble in it ... so is it real or no ?

Instead of buying a fake glass filled ruby is it better to buy red garnets? are they more affordable? are garnets treated in anyway.? where can you get them? I don't see any red garnets on ebay, wonder why because they can be lovely and have more red in them then purple pink rubies. Can you make a video on red garnets, any ways thanks for this educational video.

I don't know about the rest of questions but it is impossible to treat Garnets as any treatment has no effects on them but their are stones that are made to look like garnet

Hello Hem Padia! Thanks for following us! We agree that red garnets are much better in terms of confusion with the treatments. But if you have the know how then the value increments you get in a ruby, its impossible to get in a Garnet as garnet is abundance in the nature. We are working daily on some new videos! There will be a new video on white sapphire soon if you are interested. And definitely pass the word in our company to create videos on red garnets but there is not much to classify in garnets as there is no treatment in them, but the difference mines of mozambique and zambia that produce red garnet. Yeah, the garbage I bought on an auction is showing those cracks and a chip mark on its surface. Tons of inclusions with almost no clarity. Good thing I didn't over pay; it's aprox market value still, but very disappointing nonetheless.

There are actually alot of non glass filled rubies in the market. We at Navneet Gems only do wholesale so we would not be the right source, but there are many companies on the internet that sell a genuine ruby. Be careful where and how you buy a ruby.

Going by the books, they are still rubies. But is there more glass then ruby, thats the question? I would say they are not rubies and for that reason the market doesnt say it, but glass filled rubies are very inexpensive, compared to a same quality natural heat only ruby. For that reason, I'd say yes these are fake, but its our personal opinion. Going by the book they are still rubies. The labs call it ruby. It looks like a ruby, has ruby in it as composition.
