    Very important thing not mentioned in the video, make sure that the bike is not stolen from a fellow mountain biker!!!!!! ask how he got the bike, if he bought it ask for the original box, only reason someone will sell you a super cheap bike is that he is sponsored, he owns or works at a bike shop, or his dad bought him a bike and he rode it once, otherwise it is probably a scam or a stolen bike. So check on the forums and such before buying a super cheap second hand bike.

    +johola Yes! This is the most important thing! You should never buy a bike that doesn't come with its papers. They have all the important information on the bike, as well as ownership guarantee (if a bike is sold after one season, the guarantee is probably still going to be valid for a year or sometimes even 4). In some cases, if you take your bike regularly for service in a shop, they can require your papers and mark down every single thing they do (especially if it's during guarantee period, or a very expensive fix). These show exactly what parts have been changed and you can get a better idea of what damage has the bike sustained - something you can't just tell if you see a very clean bike.

    At the end of the day It's a Mountain Bike! Cosmetic damage has to be expected ! My Bike is nearly a year old and has a scratched fork,, the top handlebar screws heads half ground off, one side of the frame downtube gouged (Trance 2 ) seat with a bit of wear and other marks here and there . I try to look after it but you can't wrap them in cotton wool.

    There was this bike at the local pawn shop....at first, from a distance, it looked interesting... until you notice that the brakes were gone, the front fork was broken so bad it would compress at all, the seatpost was bent back so far it was touching the rear tire and the frame was cracked. I don't think there was much that could be parted from the bike. They wanted $300 for it.

    ask local rider, and local bike shop about how he rides and treat his/her bike around. maybe he/she never wash the bikes, and wash it just before they sell it, or anythin like that. while the bike still in good condition, but who knows after 1 week of ride it starts to fall apart..

    As if this is realistic to do when checking a bike out... I check for shocks working and not seized, brakes work, rims straight, check for crank wobble, headset wobble, rear bearing wobble.The rest here you can forget except maybe the dropper seat part if you are rich enough to be buying something with that. Most important is how does it look overall, if it looks like it's been through a lot it's busted, if it looks as new with maybe a storage scratch or two - then it's worth considering. Buying a 2nd hand bike from someone who rode it a lot is just stupid unless you're getting it for the price of a case of beer.

    You should most likely take it to a bike shop. If there is a bike shop near you that will allow you to do it yourself, that's great because you can ask them for help and then you will learn how to do it in the future. If you already know how to do it, and you have a truing stand and spoke wrenches, then do it yourself. If you don't know already, go to a bike shop and ask for information.

  • @eddiehinchliffe7345

    @eddiehinchliffe7345

    He means if there is an actual crack in the frame, since it would then be structurally unsound. Dents are ok as long as they aren't too big and scratches won't make the bike unsafe or change the performance of the bike. Cracks in the frame usually occur around welds. Note that I'm speaking about non-carbon frames, from what I've heard you shouldn't buy a carbon bike with any dents, as well as cracks.

    Great bike , rides smooth kzread.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing

    The only thing I liked about this video was your accent! It was an informative video of what to look for on potentially buying a used bike - but it was done on a bike that was already intact and well maintained. It would have been more helpful (for me) if you had a 2nd bike that was in very poor condition to be able to have a comparison to see exactly the damage you are speaking of. I'm a visual learner - so although I understood everything you were saying - I stopped watching after the first minute because I couldn't "see" what you were talking about. Please keep in mind for your next video(s) people who are "new" to the bike world. Thanks!
