Is it the same process with the 2018 Chevy Malibu LS? I’m worried about changing it and then flushing it out too much to where it’s not able to catch gears and it slips. Not sure if that happens with these. I heard that since there’s a filter in there that I’m supposed to change the filters as well.

@@chrishoff5545hey man, I've got an '18 LS as well. That won't matter. L, LS, LT, Premier are just the extra trims, styling, wheel type, etc. The internals like the transmission are the same. The 9th gen (2016-2018) Malibus have an internal filter and the drain pain isn't under the car. It's actually behind the front, by the engine. It's a MASSIVE pain to do a TOTAL drain, so don't even bother. If you're draining (from the undercarriage drain bolt, I mean) and replacing every 30k or so miles, you're gonna be ok. You're not going to get ALL of the fluid out, but remember that the new fluid mixes with what's left of the old, so you're not at risk of driving 100k or more miles on crappy gummed up ATF fluid. Just remember that after the drain and fill to shift through all the gears, including the 1-6 manual mode (the +/- on the top of the shifter) and back to park so everything gets lubricated. You got this!
