Believe it or not, keeping the oil inside your engine is extremely important to performance. The valve cover is a common place for oil leaks to start. Years of exposure to extreme temperature change degrades the gaskets and causes failure. That's why regular inspection and service with quality gaskets from Victor Reinz is critical to maintaining the health of your engine.
In This DIY, Mike Day shows you how to replace the valve cover gasket on your N54 powered BMW with helpful step-by-step instructions. This service is more advanced than the average DIYer may want to attempt alone, but Mike helps you get a handle on it with this detailed guide so you can confidently service your BMW at home regardless of your skill level. Save time, save money, and get the job done right.
Disclaimer: The car used in this video is a testing and development car. This N54 is HEAVILY Modified with ECS and Turner Motorsport performance upgrades. Your Engine bay will likely look very different, but this video covers all N54B30 valve cover replacements for your BMW.

Unless there is damage to the valve cover, the gasket is all you need to replace

Been quoted between $700 and $1300. I followed this and a couple other videos/instructions and was able to do it on a weekend. Total about 7h .. If I had to do it again I can probably do it in 4 or so.. I took my time and labeled bolts, lines , etc since it was my first time. My car was leaking from the back at 107K miles. When I removed the old cover and gasket the old gasket was super brittle and it broke in several places. Hard as hell .. do yourself a favor and replace the valve cover as well.. it is not hard but a pain of a job and the cover is plastic so I decided to replace it all and not only the gasket.

I’m not here for the gasket, I’m here because my spark plug socket got stock in the coil hole.
