black in the filter is the carbon from the brushes of the fuel pump when the pump is new.

I had heard this but couldn't find anything definitive so left it out of the vid. Seems like an awful lot of carbon!

With the 15L Acerbis tank, you have to be extremely careful tightening the 4 self tappers on the cover plate. Unlike the IMS tank, the Acerbis only has bare plastic and I stripped 2 of the 4 holes despite using a bicycle torque wrench. They only need to be the lightest tension. You can repair the stripped holes with plastic strips and the correct adhesive. It’s also a good idea to put silicone grease on the double lipped seals.

Yes good point, the self tappers have zero feel... I was careful! The IMS has brass inserts and hex bolts, much nicer.

A small flathead screwdriver fits underneath the metal end portion and it will lift right up. RV water hoses use the same clamps. Or a dremel, haha.

Keith there is also a fuel screen on the bottom of the pump itself. Ktm do sell a fuel service kit which has it in there and the filter you just changed. Mine was quite dirty when I did mine on my 500

Cool mate just thought I’d point it out. Has your brothers bike engine been opened up yet? Would be grouse if you do a video on reliability. His has done heaps of kms for a single would shine some light on the topic for those thinking of using the 500 for more road riding

When does someone say.. Okay I definitely need to change my fuel filter. Is it I'd it's cracked or broken and spraying fuel in the tank. Honest question. Because my bike started running horrible and I notice fuel now sprays around in my tank.

Hello, I’m having some serious problems with my oversized IMS 4.5 gallon tank. I’ve burned through two valve covers and two gas tanks due to the gas tank rubbing on the valve cover of my 501. IMS thinks I need to just deal with it. Others have advised me to shape the tank with heat of put hose or other stuff up under there. Seems ridiculous considering the cost of these. My question is can you confirm that you aren’t having any interfaces with valve cover on your oversized Acerbis tank?

you mentioned it's (the filter) done it's job, it wouldn't be near that dirty if you refueled before the fuel level turned the low fuel light on, that gray material is carbon brush material out of the starter motor. It's only catching what's rejected by the fuel pressure regulator and recirculated, allot of that is going into the inline filter downstream. That fuel pump will fail prematurely and is one of the worst I'vemore contaminated ones I've seen for brush carbon caught in the in-tank filter. If your typical rides use that much fuel you need a bigger tank.

I'm only a recent KTM owner, and never had one fail. I will run it until it dies. If I'm on a remote ride I'll carry a spare. Some of my mates have had them fail.

Don't use a Dremel tool to remove the clips people! That is not smart, use wire cutters and pry the clip open.

You would think a 10 thousand dollar bike you would get a steel mesh filter.
