You've told me WHY to change the battery NOT HOW to change it. Amazing.

this is a poor video! No instructions at ALL!!
Thank you! For me, the money line in this video was "ALL hard-wired smoke alarms will have a battery backup." The battery in my particular brand is pretty well-concealed. So I did what the man said, and pulled the alarm down as far as the wires allowed. I had to actually disconnect the wires in order to get to the battery compartment. Thanks again for posting this!
This was so helpful. Thanks so much!
Thanks so much. I was intimidated to change the battery. Now it's done.
Thank you!!! Perfect assistance!
Fab. Very well presented. Thanks
Thanks for some useful information. 😀
For those of you having trouble: You can leave the wired detector attached. Unscrew it clockwise, and it will pop off its ceiling holder and be dangling from its power wires. Turn it upside-down like he does in the video, open the holder, and the battery (wide node towards the outside) will slide in and out MUCH more easily than if you try to wedge it in with the detector normal-side up. Close and latch the door after re-inserting the battery (on mine the latch slides away from the door to lock it in place once fully closed), then, if you still get chirping, hold down the reset button on the detector for about two seconds. All the alarms will go off in your house briefly, but they'll stop and the chirping should be gone. Once you've verified no chirping, screw the detector back in.
I'm about to rip this alarm off the ceiling and throw it outside although I know the beeping still won't stop lol

Thanks GAB
Excellent!!
THANK YOU.....for your video. I was putting the battery in wrong & could NOT stop it from churping...was going insane
Thank you! Finally, someone was able to explain to me how to do this in a way I could understand!! No more chirping!!! :)

HOW DO YOU STOP IT FROM SCREAMING
Did not learn anything. HOW to change the battery if the sucker is plugged in to the power mains?
Does the electricity need to be off in order to change battery
Thanks! I just changed batteries in two smoke detectors. TIP: pause the vid to see which direction the battery was inserted.
Can the battery be changed without removing the unit from the ceiling?
Okay... so specifically do you have to turn of the power at the circuit breaker to change the battery? Or not? Crucial question not answered here.

I would definitely do that just in case. Wouldn't wanna take the risk of something happening.
How do I disconnect the harness to access the battery door. It doesn't want to come off easily.🤔
Whats the polarity ? You need to add that to your video. WIll it go in if the polarity is wrong?

"When you change your clock, change your batteries." I live in Arizona, so I guess that means I never change mine.
ive bought a new smoke detector it has a battery 9 volt and way to hardwire the unit i dont want to hardwire the unit want run off the battery the green light flashes on smoke detector ervery 30 secounds is it ok for the battery only thank you
i am having the same trouble ....how do u get it off the ceiling...it doesnt twist.....how do u get access to the battery> Haul it out of the ceiling ...but wouldnt u break a wire off by mistake hauling down on the alarm>>>>sounds like they have not made it easy to change these batteries
What if it continues to chirp?
I purchased a home with existing hard wired smoke alarms. (No owners manual) The home is 9 years old. I changed all the batteries. One alarm is chirping when it did not before. I changed the battery again. It still chirps. I used a vacuum to clean the alarm in case there was dust or whatever else might be in it. Replaced the battery again and it still chirps. What could be the problem?

No, and the words that indicate polarity are insanely small to read, even if you.re not on a LADDER. You mean there isn't a better design?
Doesn't say how you know if battery is actually connected after ripping out detector from ceiling
So for people that like me are having trouble with the chirping even after changing the battery, you also have to turn off the power to the actual alarm by using the circuit breaker (I know, why would they make something so stupid), then hold down the test button to reset the alarm, then change the battery. Hope that helps.

thank you. this is the dumbest thing ever. appreciate that you put this in the comments or it would still be chirping. The video is USELESS. Why even bother? Thanks again for your help!!!

Pretty sure I will be buying anything other than a First Alert, if not I'll invent something, truly, this is far to inconvenient and poorly thought out.

THANK YOU!!! This finally worked, and I didn't see this crucial tip ANYWHERE else, including the video above and the First Alert website troubleshooting section. You have made 2 women so happy, and so relieved that the beeping has stopped!
So far no one has explained the position of the positive vs negative connectors. I stopped the video to see how he replaced the battery to determine the correct position.

Pay attention when you remove the old one and replace in same orientation ...if you look inside the compartment it tells you ...it is hard to see but it’s there
I checked my smoke alarm, even where it was mounted - I even unpopped the alarm and there's NO battery or ANY indicator of where it is. Landlord has been ignoring us for 3+ weeks when we first called about it needing replacement.
Just trynna figure out so i can smoke in my room without this shit lmao
👀it’s been like 14 years that I know and now it’s chirping.

My smoke alarm has no battery. As in there is no battery slot and it still make noise.
It's 2am and this video nor others aren't helping.. ugh.. and took off the alarm from the ceiling. See Ellen's 'Chirp Chirp Chirp' video and buy yourself a Nest alarm, doing that now on-line.
Learned nothing.
What I don't understand is why most of the AC powered smoke alarms out there do not just simply recharge their own backup battery, I mean why? Do these smoke alarm companies simply not know the amount of frustrations they could have saved by simply making smoke detectors that can recharge their own backup battery instead of beeping at you all night just because the backup battery is low? Makes no sense.

It's all about price. You can buy a charger and rechargeable batteries, but you'll have to replace the battery more often because rechargeables have smaller capacity.
@charlesgreaves3293
5 жыл бұрын
@@tomfoxe7602 the thing is,,,you don't need a charger, the alarm would charge it itself! It's already hardwired to AC, just give it a lithium battery, done.

@@charlesgreaves3293 That's big tech for you. A bunch of brainless people that are faceless. In the past historically a person's face would be associated with a product giving more incentive to have a good product.
From the beginning this video doesn't help me. I need to know HOW TO GET THE SUCKER OFF OF THE WALL. I'm probably going to break mine, but I guess I'll just pull on the plug where the wires go in until it either lets go or breaks.

I don’t know where the owner’s manual is. I’m scared to try to change the battery because I don’t want to get electrocuted!! 😱
I’m ready to set my 🤬 house on fire to stop this 🤬 smoke alarm chirping. I’ve changed the battery I’ve dusted it, I’ve turned the mains on & off OMFG 🤬🤯
This tells me to change my battery. It doesn't tell me how to change the battery.
It would have been nice if he showed us which way the battery goes in! jeez!

why change the batteries every six months on a hard wired system when the battery are warranted for at least two years and are not losing charge just sitting there?

Not helpful. Do I need to turn off the power first?
You know what's a greater danger than no smoke alarm? Climbing twelve feet up to change the damn battery, to short a pig tail, and tiny letters to tell you the polarity. Ridiculous. What a cheap poorly designed piece of junk.
9-volt battery and he shows you which way it goes in.
Worst vid ever. I am here because I know I need to change the battery. But dude how!
