Hi CJ, thanks for the very helpful video. I changed the plugs on my GSX650F today and noticed that there are a couple of spark plug spanners in the tool roll that comes with the bike. These plug spanners are excellent because they have rubber inside them and grip the plug so that you can just lift it out effortlessly. It also helps with installing the new plugs as you don't need to drop them down the hole which risks damaging the plug or changing the gap.
Really good step by step guide. Thanks for not skipping any steps! Really helped to loosen that thermostat housing for access the the middle left plug! Had the exact same issue with one of my coils with the crack and corrosion. Must order new coils.

Excellent video, will be changing my GSX650F plugs soon. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

Thanks mate, hoping to get back to it sometime soon... its just so damm cold atm :(
Thanks for the video, was able to get it done using your tips and methods! As an added tip a long piece of rubber tube to press on the spark plug and rotate get it out as an alternative to the claw tool works aswel. Cheers.
Very good and helpful video. Well done.
I just did the replacement today. Took 30 minutes with fairing already dismantled. I used the spark plug tool from the toolset. This is very short, so i extended the tool with a standard wrenchset. For the rest, i followed the same steps as you describe except i did not need the plastic iginition grabber as the standard suzuki tool has a rubber inner grabberlike plug which draws the plugs out of the hole very easy. Inserting new ones in reverse order. The hardest one was the plug behind the cooling system. Although the bolts were removed, it was still difficult to reach, but i succeeded. The outer plugs were a little difficult because of the ignition coils had to be rotated 180 degrees. So it is not a hard job, but as UVjoint already stated, the original toolset can be used(almost).
video looks great was very easy to follow and didn't have to keep pausing the video to read the screen nice one CJ :)

CJ, thank you, I'm no mechanic and have just followed your video to the letter and all done with no issues, middle right was awkward but fiddled till it came off.
Excellent job
CJ,.. A much easier, faster and much safer way to replace in the plugs is to use a piece or 3/8" id rubber hose, approx. 8" long, simply put the plug in the feed it down and begin screwing it in, you can't cross thread because of the grip on the plug and its also self entering then follow up with the torque setting and your done.
Well done 👏 you for the video. I wasn't sure what to do tbh . But it's helped me . Thanks 😊
this time success! well done , video looks very professional.

Thanks mate, I really appreciate that, took me long enough :)
Excellent and helpful video. One thing I would perhaps add would be that before refitting the fairing lower fairing halves would be to run the bike up making sure the plug connections are sound. It would be a pain if there was a dodgy connection and you had to remove fairings again.
Excellent vid, very clear thanks

Hello CJ. I just bought a 2013 GSX-650F and was quite pleased to find your channel as I prepared to perform some of the basic maintenance . I used the oil & filter change and air filter videos to help me complete the tasks with relative ease. I found your “How to Change Spark Plugs” video very helpful. I have one suggestion that might be helpful to the viewers. I made a small string lasso and gently wrapped the loop under the top of each two inner spark plug tubes; with a gentle tug each one popped out quite easily. Thanks for making these videos. Perhaps you might get back into riding in the future.

Brilliant video. Well done chum. Tip for lifting out and removing the plugs. Use a length of rubber tubing that’s a snug fit over the ceramic part of the plug. Good for replacing the plug too.

Thanks a lot for the effort documenting this in this very well done video, I have to change the spark plugs on the "Big sister" soon, will save me a lot of swearing I guess.
Very helpful. I have an 08 with 21,000kms and im sure my plugs will be just as nasty as yours. I will go with the iridium plugs as I have found them to make a noticeable difference in my automobiles. Hoping to see a coolant flush video in the near future! Keep up the good work!

My spark plug (new and existing) was size 16mm with the sparkplug-socket. Also when using a good quality sparkplug-socket there is Rubber within them which make it possible to insert and remove the plug easily:)
Great vid but can I add that dielectric grease on the coils and nickel anti seize on the plug threads will make things easier next time around
nice work. I had similar old spark plugs in my gsx650f after previous owner. I think next time I will also buy the iridium one. Still waiting for the fork oil change manual ;)

You removed a small cap on the new plug, does that little cap go back on the new plug before installing? Thank you very much sir, you have been a great help as I have not got a manual for service yet! I just got this wonderful machine!

Nice Vid. Please do a video on if you want to restrict the bike were to put the restrictor. Install and an uninstall of an restrictor(throttle kit).
@KENNMAISTER

I have a restrictor kit on my gsx650f, its hell to mount it and dismount it, but it is only 2 bolts that hold it, you need to take of the tank and a extra long screw driver to get it in, and small hands because it is tight as fuck.
This is very helpful, you made very nice videos for us that have the same bike. What a shame that you had to sold it :(.

HI I've done the same last week. What i did with the 4th spark plug is remove the 2 other bolts of the bracket as well.Then you have a lot more space to change it.

hello CJ I hope you can help me, what squeeze does your torque wrench have? How much is the cup you use for the spark plug? thanks greetings

I going to do my gsx 650 bandit and noticed the plugs were hard to get off I noticed you twisted the black plugs first before pulling out I did not do that when I tried they were tight and did not won't to keep going and break something but looks like twisting it's the way to go cheers for vid

+Graf162 I was the same, but a mate of mine said twisting is the way to go :) glad the video helped and thanks for commenting 👍
You said 10mm spark plug socket that was much bigger than a 10mm
Little tip, next time you change the plugs out, undo the two bolts holding the thernostat on too, gives you more wiggle room as you can take the bracket out :)

Hey bro, I have Suzuki GSX 650 F (Naked version without fearing) and want to fix crash protector, just would like to know if you can guide the mounting point for this motorbike.
Any reason you can't just use the ignition coil to remove the plug after you loosen it? Just asking because it worked sweet when I did it but I'm fairly new to servicing my own bike. Cheers anyway mate the video was bloody helpful
FOR THOSE TRYING TO UPGRADE TO NGKS CR8E YOU WILL NEED A 16MM SPARK PLUG SOCKET. I ASSUME CJ HAD A DIFFERENT PLUG. MY BIKE HAD NGKs INSIDE AND I TRIED WITH THE PLUG SO HARD I CRACKED THE PLASTIC SHIELDING AND THANKFULLY THE 10MM SOCKET WAS ABLE TO "CATCH" THE PLUG BECAUSE OF THE JAGGED PLASTIC EDGE GRIPPING THE INSIDE OF THE SOCKET. WHAT A MESS
Looks good without the fairings!
@CJMPH

It does indeed, if the game indicators weren’t on the fairings, I would have ridden without them for a bit
Hey CJ! Thanks a lot for all your GSX650F videos - they've been really helpful to me. I have a quick question about the spark plug socket - have you tried using the two sockets in the toolkit under the seat? I checked mine and found that there are 2 sockets with a hinged section (presumably for easily sliding it into the spark plug opening). They both have rubber inserts that are probably for gripping the spark plug. There's also a crescent wrench that fits one end of the socket. I'm only asking because I'll have to check and probably replace my spark plugs, and I can't find a 10mm socket anywhere online.
@CJMPH
6 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, glad to hear it :) I never used the toolkit under the seat because mine were all rusty and not particularly nice to use. The fact that they have the rubber inserts would push me towards agreeing with you that they are for spark plugs but on the flip side, I would be surprised if they included that piece as the seat toolkit is more of an emergency kit and I wouldn't have thought many people would use it for this kind of job. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Thanks for commenting
@UVjoint
6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I thought so too (about the kit being more for emergencies). But this was mentioned in another video, where replacing a Bandit's spark plugs was discussed (by Delboy, if you know him). I'll provide an update here about my attempts.

CJ, I can confirm that those two tools from the toolkit with the pivots in them fit the spark plugs. I used the short one for the outermost cylinders, and the long one for the two annoying inner ones. One question though - after finishing everything and putting the fuel tank back on, I feel like the gap between the tank and frame is bigger now. I made sure to slide the front lip under the triangular rubber damper, and checked a few times to ensure there's no fouling. It seems like the rubber dampers on the sides are causing it. Any suggestions on what I can do?
@CJMPH
6 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, thanks for confirming mate, thats good to know about the tools.....I always think the same thing when I put my tank back on. That's certainly how mine is too, not enough space to get a finger in the gap but not too far off.
Hello from North Carolina is it okay to not use the torque wrench?
@CJMPH
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, you could but just make sure you don’t over tighten it as it’s easy to destroy the thread.
hi mate from australia . i got a 2008 gsx650f in black. love it . has 23 000 km on it should i change the plugs. i also have a K.N air filter to put in it . your opinion please mate. THANKS.........
@CJMPH
6 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, sorry for the late reply. I would change the plugs based on the year alone... I think the book says to do them every 2 years which is excessive but 5 years is probably a good way to go if you down do much riding. K&N air filter should be a nice and easy change over too 👍

I’ve had the K&N oil filter on for 2 years now and not had a problem. I’ve only ever heard good things about them but can’t say for certain about the air filter as I haven’t got one
Ive noticed you put iridium plugs in did you notice anything different in pros or cons?

Hi mate, to be honest, not really no... they say they should last longer the ones I replaced were not iridium and looked like they were the originals from 2008 so they lasted long enough lol

@@AlcatrazMeow Mine is not magnetic, it just has a very tight grip of the spark plug. It is not able to screw the plug in, just get it into place or remove it once its unscrewed.
