How To Change Pinion On ARRMA 4x4 Mega and BLX RCs - Easy Upgrade

This is a tutorial that works across the ARRMA 4x4 lineup: Typhon, Senton, Granite and Big Rock. It's a simple way to get a little more speed. Going with a smaller pinion will reduce speed and lower motor and ESC temps if you are overheating your car. I bought a 17T pinion because I think it is where I will want to be when I go brushless...though I may jump up to a 20T. If you want to stay brushed and go for 30+Mph, you will want a 27T pinion. These are all 48 pitch gears. IF you do go to 27t, don't bash with it and only use on cement.

The ADJ. Mesh Aluminum motor mount allows you to put whatever size you want on the older versions. It's usually $15 or less on Ebay or JennysRC. This also will allow you to switch to 32p teeth gears. Great video! Great information!

Thanks for the video. I'm a visual person and your video really helped me understand how to disassemble and reassemble the motor/gear assembly. I'm not sure if it's a design flaw but my son has been driving it on our long gravel driveway and the very fine dust and some small rocks have gotten into the motor/gear assembly and eaten away at the main plastic gear. 😟 Now that I have an excuse to order a new main gear I'll also order the t20 pinion upgrade. 🙂 Thanks again.
