    I just replaced my pints tape. A good thing to know is that the plastic is right under the grip tape and not on the actual hard black plastic of the footpad and thus when you go to pry up the grip tape go for the middle of the lip and not the bottom.

    So on a used XR I have I have a spot on the left sensor that feels like there’s a separation between the plastic and sensor, I waved my little heat gun over it quickly after watching your video and could clearly see it wasn’t stuck together, I could see the plastic separating from the sensor. I cleaned it tested the sensor using the app and installed a new grip tape. Tests fine, but curious if maybe it’s like that because someone put too much heat trying to replace the grip tape previously? It did look like it wasn’t 100% on one corner when I got it, had a small wrinkle back by the fender but weirdly on the opposite side. Works fine now bit ive gone through pushback and split my helmet and have my 11 year old on one and want to make sure they’re 100% safe. This pad was on my sons, I traded it out with mine that just passed 110 miles today. What do you think, if it doesn’t give and issues just ride or toss it?

    I changed my grip tape the other day and the front corners of the clear plastic came up, not the sensor though. I had to glue the corners down so they would lay flat so I could install the grip tape. I’ve taken the board out on a few rides since then and everything is working and engaging/disengaging just fine, but it’s in the back of my head. Should I just replace the footpads or do you think it’s fine if I leave them on?

    hey jeff, i have a question that is pretty involved.... i have been running a stock onewheel for a while and decided to upgrade a few things because my friends make fun of me, and one of those upgrades were some new TFL griptape. everything seemed to go smoothly during install, and the tape is night and day velcro feel, BUT, (that's a big but) my sensor pad has been waaaaaay less sensitive and i dropped nose so many times trying to get it to engage the first ride i thought i broke it. now you have to get the board up and balanced and almost help it along before it engages.... you could imagine this is a problem doing the cool slow moving tricks i so very much enjoy ( it may be a weak trick but i like to jump from ground to board (easy) and do a body varial in the process (harder) but i absolutely cannot do this trick with my new tape issues ). yesterday i was so frustrated i said to my buddy i am going to put new stock tape back on the front of the board because my theory is that the TFL tape is just a little thicker than the stock tape and my scrawny sack of 150lbs cant get the thicker tape to read my foot pressure, and he had mentioned to me about "perma-posi" and showed me a couple pictures on how to do it.... i can definitely see how i would like a monster like that and already i usually end up just jumping off my board to dismount. and so! any advice from you on these matters would be greatly appreciated... you guys are the best i don't know how you find time to answer questions like this and make vids and shred so goddamn hard all day every day. you boys are inspiring and have definitely helped me progress. shout out rhode island onewheel group!

    Hey what up Joe! That's really strange, swapping the grip for TFL Grip shouldn't have any bearing on the activation. Try to hit it with a hair dryer for a few minutes and see if that helps it settle. If you want to do a perma-posi, just hit me on email and I can send you some snapshots on the process. jeff@thefloat.life

    So I just did this the other day and felt I did a good job with the exception of letting it cool but everything looked great. The next day I had all kinds of trouble engaging the board and I’m not sure what’s going on. It was cold as well, I rode twice the first time was just over 30 degrees and the second was around 45 could that have been the issue? I did the footpad sensor tests that Future Motion showed in a video and found the engagement very hit and miss. I know I didn’t peel up any of the plastic but I just don’t understand what might be going on. Should I remove and install again letting it cool? Can I do the tests with no grip tape on to make sure it’s not a sensor issue?

    You can put the TFL tape right over top of the stock grip tape and it works fine. Been using this setup for two years no problem. There is no need to remove the stock tape for all you people worried about messing up your boards. Just place the TFL tape over the stock grip tape, use an application roller to adhere and your good to go. None of this hair dryer nonsense is needed. Ride on people!

  • @stokepusher5481

    @stokepusher5481

    Probably works fine so long as you get the edges of a thicker tape like TFL's sealed down to stop wet/debris getting under, still grip stuck to grip is a pretty sure deal. But then again, if your an urban rider, potential for some air trapped under it, and on a sunny/warm day that little bit of inflating air pressure may be enough to push down and keep a sensor on one day, they are pretty sensitive. This grip removal task is easy enough, kinda fun when you get the old tape warmed up and your finger tips stick to it so good as you tack and pull away, kinda therapeutic!
