Natural born teacher. Doesn’t skip steps. Subscribed. Thank you!
THANK YOU! Clear and to-the-point! With the cost of living so high, no handymen available, and my hubby's back going out, I'll be doing a lot more of this stuff myself. I appreciate your help!
I want to thank you so much for this video. I am a widow and naturally my kitchen florescent lights went out. It took me a few days to get my courage up to tackle this and because of your video, it really was easy and painless. The hardest part was getting up on the ladder. LOL. Thank you again and I am a new subscriber to your videos......

On the side of the bulb 1 prong is completely round the other is squared on the bottom.which prong goes in first. this is in the T12 bulb.
Thank you, the 90* turn was clutch for me. Almost broke the light trying to take it out, before it clicked, it can’t be this difficult. Video saved me a bloody hand. Thanks!! 🙏
Having done a work-study job while in college which had me relamping all fluorescent lamp bulbs in my city (we replaced 40W tubes to 34W, a 15% energy savings which also was partially-incentivized by the local electric company), I’d only add when putting in a new tube, make sure its fully-seated inside the fixture terminals on both sides by SLIGHTLY pulling downwards on the ends so it “clicks” into place (CAREFUL: don’t break the tube!). This helps ensure the two pins on each end of tube make maximal contact with the recessed holder, thus avoiding “hot spots” in the connections (so although the tube may light up as expected, the reduced contact area may lead to higher resistance as oxidation builds up, reducing the life of the new bulb(s) & leading to premature failure).
I'm too embarrassed to share how long we spent trying to get our light cover off before watching this video... 😂 Thank you for saving us time!!

Thank you sooo much for this video. It enabled two senior ladies to change Mom’s lights in the kitchen. You were a God send!!!!!!
This is a lifesaver! I would've been lost trying to figure it out on my own, but once I had a few tips it was an easy 3 minute job 👍
Thank you so much for your very clear explanation and instructions. I’m alone and it gets so hard to get these little things done around the house. I appreciate you!
Thank you so much. My granddaughters and I successfully changed all 4 bulbs. I also appreciate the information about the new LED plug and play bulbs.
Replaced an old 4 foot, 2 bulb fluorescent fixture over my work bench with a new LED fixture 2 days ago. It's much lighter weight and brighter but the bulbs are non removable. Recently subscribed to your channel & it's been very helpful.

I am torn between the plug and play LED bulb replacements or the fixture like you are talking about with integrated LEDs. If the integrated LEDs don't fail for 10 years probably not a bad option. I just hope these integrated LED fixtures don't start dropping out or it will be a pain needing to swap out the fixtures when the lights go out.
I just came across your site as I have a project. You speak very well and present everything clearly both orally & visually. Also you present your material/lesson at a comfortable pace for anyone to follow. I subscribed today and I wish I had found your site earlier. Thank you. Very well done.

Thanks for this video! I always had problems getting both prongs in properly, had a hell of a time getting both in securely a few years back.
I needed this information to be able to change bulbs at my new place. your video is the first one I found and after watching it you explained 100% of everything I need to know! Now I don't need to watch anyone else's video!

Thank you so much! I have to replace my bulbs tomorrow and l was terrified of tackling this being a grandmother. I'm sure after watching your video that l can handle this! Much thanks!
Thank you. I hadn't a clue on how to remove the bulbs. Mine don't give the measurement, but I can figure that out. What I can not figure out is what to do with old fluorescent light tubes. You cannot just throw them out. We have another dead set in the basement collecting dust because we didn't know how to dispose of them, and that was probably 10-15 years ago. I'm wishing my late husband had never put this fixture up. Lowes only takes compact bulbs, yet ironically, Lowes is where I have to go to buy replacement tubes. I live in a rural area; I'd be willing to ship them to a recycler, but where?
Thank you for posting this, I misunderstood how the tubes went in, was a real hassle, now it's easy!
So helpful, particularly with an LED replacement! Thank you.
Thank you for valuable information. I bought a fixer upper and I'm learning so much.

Just want to thank for this, my mom was impressed that I was able to change the bulbs!
Thanks mate, needed to double check as I’d installed the bulb and it wasn’t working, turned out the connection points had spread, but your vid helped confirm I had done it right
This was really a Big Help because I was taking a much longer time than this guy getting those long bulbs inserted, after finally inserting the prongs on each end, I was doing a lot of twisting of those long bulbs waiting for them to finally pop on and it was Very Frustrating!!
Thanks much for the informative video! Now I know what the T5, T8,and T12 mean and how to determine their size! I would wear safety glasses anytime you are working above your head or working with thin glass tubes like fluorescent lights. Thanks again!

Why doesn’t the light bulb work fully
@rs12official
2 жыл бұрын
@@janehempfing8662 There are a few different reasons that fluorescent tubes fail: - One or both of the filaments in a tube are blown off or burned away, meaning that the filaments can no longer be heated, and the tube won’t start. - The emissive coating on the filaments has evaporated off, meaning the filaments can no longer start the tube. - The tube has lost vacuum, meaning that air has contaminated the internal atmosphere of the tube, and the tube won’t start.
Good info. I had no idea what TX indicated but do now. I always wear eye protection when working on these lights or overhead due to the possibility of dust, dirt and broken glass when removing or installing. Thanks again for the info. JimE

Thank you so much for uploading video , had hard time figuring out how to take the bulb out lol
My mom lives in an apartment complex and her kitchen light is the same type of affair...a four-lamp, F40T12 fixture. When she first moved in, the light worked, but failed shortly after. I changed all the bulbs. Just a few months later, it failed once again. I went to Home Depot and bought two new electronic rapid start T12 ballasts and swapped them with the old magnetic ones that were burning the bulbs out too soon. Put some new bulbs in and VOILA! She hasn't had a burnout in a few years now.
Omg thank you so much!!!!! You saved me hundreds of dollars by helping me do it myself 😊 this single mom Thanks you! ❤❤❤❤❤
Easy explanation to get the job done. Thank You.
Grew up with this fixure seeing them back to 1984 amazing their still intact.
Thank you, this was very helpful. Where should I go to find out what LED plug-and-play replacement I need for a 34W 1 1/2 inch "old style" bulb. I tried 32W old style bulbs (and was able to install them thanks to your instructions), but I am getting buzzing and flickering, so I assume the ballast is damaged. Thank you.
I had change my lights but wasn’t turning the bulbs…this video definitely helped

Hard to believe that fluorescent fixtures have been with us for over 80 years now. I remember when I was in grade school about 50 years ago when they replaced the incandescent fixtures (the cool retro "Saturn Ring" type that used partially-silvered bulbs) with ones very similar to what is shown in the video. I can also recall cleaning eight-foot fluorescent fixtures from the early 1940s many years ago; the diffusers were GLASS and very heavy but IMO quite attractive for their day. They were made by Columbia Fixture Company somewhere in Eastern Washington. Looks like it is finally about time to replace the bulbs in my one fluorescent fixture with drop-in LED replacements since the latter's lumens per watt and longer life are making it more appealing.

The Fluorescents bulbs had a good run but I think they are another casualty of the LED in the coming years.

Those Saturn ring hanging pendants were awesome. We had them in our school in the '70s. They each took a 300W Duro-Test mogul base silver bowl bulb. There were 6 of these fixtures per classroom, plus some recessed fixtures along one side of the room. These provided wonderful shadow-free light bounced off the white ceiling. Lots of power draw (and unwanted heat) for the amount of light received, but those were state-of-the-art at the time the school was built around 1970. As incandescent lighting becomes rarer and rarer, I relish seeing it whenever I do come across it.

I was too intimidated to change the tunes myself. When my dad was alive he would always change it. And I don't think he really knew what he was doing. He just kind of winged it. Now that he is gone I am left to my own devices. Thanks to your video I successfully changed both tubes. Now I know to replace them when the tube starts getting black. I saved my packaging so that I will know what to buy in the future. Thank you.
Thank you for this incredibly helpful video 🙏
Thank you so much for excellent instruction. Would you please instruct me why i change 4 new light bulbs but only two are working? Thank you.
Thanks for the video. It was a huge help. But the dang ballast failed. Just can't win sometimes.
Great video, and very well explained. However, I would not mix different color temperatures of fluorescent tubes in the same fixture. The old tubes were cool white while the new ones are daylight. Using cool white tubes to replace the old tubes would had looked better, but otherwise great job! Also, be careful when breaking a fluorescent tube. Fluorescent tubes contain mercury, which is toxic if inhaled.

I can't thank you enough. This was EXACTLY what I needed. I'd been putting this off forever because I had little confidence I knew what I was doing, but after watching this video I was able to switch out four burned out tubes for four good ones from my garage until I can order new lights. It went very well and took twenty minutes. Now I'll order new lights. Thanks!
Thank you for your knowledge it's been helpful.
Very helpful. Never knew what the t numbers meant. Thx
Great video, Scott! If you replace all bulbs and still nothing, would it most likely be a bad ballast?
Thank you so much for the helpful video
Thank you!! For the life of me, I couldnt figure out how to get the cover off of my lights :(
Thank you. Now I gotta check which light bulbs I need.
On my flush fixture on my drop ceiling I could not get enough room to get the bulb into position. I then noticed a slot at the end of the housing. I inserted the two pins at the end of the bulb into the slot and this gave me clearance to swing the bulb to the sockets. That slot was there for a reason.
Clear and precise explanation 👍
Thank you, I was finally able to get the cover off by pushing up first. When I got the cover off one of the two tubes fell out. I re-incerted the tube and now they both work with a slight buzz. Do the LED T8 replacements have the LED driver built in?
Thank you I didn’t know what to do and your video helped me out

Great video, and I've changed flourescent bulbs b4, but the two I'm trying to change now simply won't come out of the slot. My lights are T12, green on BOTH ends. I have turned the prongs vertically; the bottom one on one side is in the opening slot but will not drop or pull out. The other side won't do so either. I'm afraid to break the bulb by pulling too hard, although I did try to move the white plastic receptor farther away from the prongs. Couldn't get it without tampering with the bulb and making it harder to get out. Uuggh.
