same here, and mine is about ready to retire, but bro, I bought it for $100 second-hand and it's run for 10 years, so I think I've actually come out on top given my total oil bill over that time has been about $30

@@deannaboswell4859 Don't know if you found an answer, but it could be a few things: bad fuel, bad spark plug, clogged carburetor, or an old air filter. The air filter and spark plugs are easy changeouts. I stored my mower with fuel in it (not a good thing) over winter. Mower ran one day a few weeks ago, wouldn't stay running after that 1st cut. I had to drain the fuel, clean the carburetor and fuel line. It ran after that.

The baggie under the gas cap is a great tip! I used to drain as much gas as possible prior to placing the mower on its side. Thank you. I used to change mower oil on rare occasions - maybe once every 5 years or so. I learned my lesson when my riding mower engine died a few years ago b/c I had forgotten to check the oil level. Now, I have a spreadsheet tracking all maintenance to my mowers, aerator, car and motorcycle.

Simple yet effective video. One edit is many manufacturers say you can use multi viscosity oils in your mower, and some recommend you use a full synthetic oil for longevity and less oil consumption. I use the same 5w30 full synth that goes into my VW and it's quiet and uses far less oil than the SAE30.

Good for you! You can just change it once a year if you are the average person, change it every spring or fall. Also change the air filter every few years and the spark plug every 5 years unless it's running rough. Last tip, try not to use gasoline with ethanol in it. Most gas has ethanol, so if you use that type of gas, then add an Ethanol Gas treatment liquid to your tank. It's a small amount, look for more info online or youtube. Also look for info about storing lawnmower during the winter, easiest thing to do is add enough ethanol treatment that the ethanol in your gas wont gum up your carburetor as it sits all winter. Last, if your lawnmower won't crank come spring, read about Seafoam product to get it started. And always keep the oil changed in your car.

Good video but you can't use this tutorial for all mowers. A Briggs and Stratton engine has a drain plug underneath. If you're trying to drain from an engine like a SV150 that hasn't a drain plug. I would run the mower for with minimal fuel for at least 10 mins to warm the oil. If you can run the mower till you've run out of fuel this works better. Tip the mower like in the video till the oil comes out of the filler neck. I personally remove the whole engine to do this as I find it easier to pour out the oil. I also add about 300ml of fresh petrol into the oil filler and shake and swirl the engine. This flushes all the old oil out of the block. I then let it evaporate. I use compressed air to completely evaporate any residual fuel/oil. When adding new oil, I add 500ml of engine oil (check to see what the oil capacity is ). Start the mower up and let it run for a couple of minutes. After a few hours, place the mower on level ground or surface and check the oil level. Add if required by adding a few millilitres of oil at a time. I've been doing this since 1989 with dozens of mowers and has never let me down. I've had the same mower since 2002 and it's never let me down. Maintenance is the key to longevity.
