Always a pleasure to watch you wrench! I learned the hard way bout the difference between top stop and base circle. Changed injectors in a v504 and was told they should be top stop like a 555, they weren't, I bent every injector rod on it.. stump, hammer and a dial indicator fixed em, but it cost me another day. Then there was the big cam 315 that was turned up to almost 400, but that's another story, lol. Stay safe and sharp my friend!!!!!!!

Can you please provide a part number for the injectors that you used? I am wondering if its better/cost effective to pull my injectors and get them reflowed or ones like yours. I have an NTC350 small cam in a 77 White-Freightliner. Its a hard start when cold and smokes like the dickens. But runs clean and clear when warm! Even under load! Apparently someone rebuilt it before me.

Don’t have the part number, but even. If I did I’d recommend calling premco diesel service. They are very knowledgeable and reasonable on the price. A small cam will always be tough to start cold.

I got a question, i have a cummins nhc 250, 855 and it won't idle under 1300, at start up it will idle at 600 for 20 seconds, then jumps up to 1300rpms and stays thier. I adjusted idle at pt pump, I've turned down 3 times, and each time idle at 600 then jump up, adjusted again, idle at 500 then jump up on its own, adjusted again, idle at 500 and jump up to 1300 rpms, i can shut truck off, start up and idle at 600, then 20 seconds it jumps up to 1300 on its own and stay right thier. I'm not sure, it don't act like getting air, because don't stumble at all, everytime I start it, it starts right up, no hesitation.

I’d try to rule out an air leak first, could be hose, filter, throttle shaft and pump shaft seal. It doesn’t take much air in the injection lines to cause a spongy throttle. I guess it’s possible the governor is acting up too.

@Digginok I figured it out, the button was sticking, had light coat of rust on it from sitting for 15 years, I pulled apart, cleaned up the button, springs, button holder and governor screw, put back together and idles and runs great.

There are two different procedures, please study this before you make the mistakes I have made. I am using the torque method with non top stop injectors, aka outer base circle. If you use inner base circle with dial indicator you will set valves on 5 and injector on 3.
