    My bridge snapped one time (about 5 years ago) so I bought a new one and decided to buy new strings at the same time. I remember it took me about 45 minutes from start to finish and I didn't have a key winder! I done it on the dining room table with a thick duvet on to protect the table and the bass. I didn't know about the pencil in the grooves tip but I can't recall any problems. This was a good video and will be very helpful for anyone who has never restrung their bass.

    Just got my first double bass, has regular steel strings on it.. I want to put nylon Weed Whackers or something similar on it, but the big E won’t fit through the tuning machine. Do I drill it out? Or do they make bigger tuners for that?

    Can rockabilly bass also be used to play jazz & classical / orchestra music? Just asking cause I have no clue about this :) Thanx!

  • @BamboozleHQ

    @BamboozleHQ

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, it can for sure. For arco (bowing), you’d generally want to have steel strings or ones designed for arco, there are some nice hybrid ones around if you play that style, but you can theoretically play all styles on most strings, it’s just some are better for some styles of playing. Arco players also prefer solid wood basses as they are more resonant, and rockabilly players tend to prefer laminate as it prevents feedback issues when amping up.

    I’m torn between the Rotosounds and the Innovation Rockabilly Blacks. They are both awesome strings. The blacks are higher tension, but lovely and smooth with great volume. The Rotosounds are a little lower tension, which I like myself but a little quieter. Both keep their tone brilliantly. It’s just personal preference to whether you prefer a higher or lower tension string tbh between them.

  • @Ivarsson

    @Ivarsson

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@BamboozleHQ Thanks for the comprehensive reply! The Rotosounds - would that be the RS4000? I've heard also some use them bumped, i.e. using the A/D/G from the RS4000 set for E/A/D and a C-string instead of the G for even lower tension.

  • @BamboozleHQ

    @BamboozleHQ

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Ivarsson anytime ☺️ That’s the ones, I believe they only make one set. I personally wouldn’t go any lower tension on them, you’d just lose too much volume and tbh, they are perfect for slapping so I’m not sure what people would use lower tension ones for. Worth an ask if you know anyone who does though! It could possibly be because they like their action very high, but I couldn’t be sure.

  • @BamboozleHQ

    That doesn’t sound great. Did you follow the video exactly? If you did, it sound like you’ve either got a) too loose strings, or b) something not set up right. It might be worth taking it to a luthier. If you did more than one string at once though, it releases the tension too much and your bridge will fall. It’s not a major problem, just reset it in the same position.

  • @BamboozleHQ

    @BamboozleHQ

    3 жыл бұрын

    That really doesn’t sound good! I would take it to a luthier. Perhaps the strings you’ve changed to are the wrong kind for your bass, if they are much lower tension, you may need a higher bridge. If you don’t have the money, pop your old strings back on and make sure the bridge is aligned properly.
