How to change a wheel bearing in 30 minutes. 89-95 toyota 4runner/pickup

To educate our customers about their vehicles and their individual components, we'll cover everything you need to know about wheel bearings and why they're important to your vehicle. These front drive wheel bearing replacement instructions apply to Toyota Corolla, Camry, and Solara; Lexus ES300; and, for Nissan Maxima, Sentra, and VW Jetta, with minor changes.
Wheel bearing replacement costs may vary by vehicle type and wheel bearing assembly. Labor costs also depend on the cost of your local repair shop or dealer, but you can expect to pay anywhere from $70 to $280, depending on how many wheel bearing sets you are repairing/replacing. Now, if you just replace the wheel bearing in one of the front wheels, those costs are split in half.
If your car doesn't require replacing the entire hub assembly, i.e. you just need to replace the hub bearing, the price will be much cheaper. Although many OEMs offer kits that include a new hub with bearings and a new hub with bearings, the hubs usually don't wear out, so they don't need to be replaced. On average, a single wheel bearing will cost you $60 to $150, while a complete bearing and hub replacement will cost you about $200 to $400 per wheel, depending on the vehicle type.
The cost of parts can vary slightly depending on the complexity of the build, but labor is generally a bit less than a typical rear bearing replacement. As for the rear wheel bearings, it will be a little cheaper to replace them, but this will obviously depend on the make and model of the vehicle. You can find Toyota 4x4 assembly bearings pre-assembled with either Chinese bearings or typical Toyota OEM "KOYO" bearings. Block bearings are not special left and right, so one will fit on both sides.
The front bearings have an integral 4 bolt flange which has 4 lock bolts that secure the assembly to the front wheel hub spindle. These are the bolts that hold the drive bearing to the front spindle, at this point the bolts do not disengage from the assembly, but once the drive bearing assembly is fully retracted it can be removed and set aside. Make sure you are using the correct size Toyota front wheel bearing tool (we use a large handle) while pushing only on the front wheel hub spindle.
Spray PB on the bearing and insert the swivel into the press with the hub facing down. Install the hub onto the wheel (now with the soft sphedo vise as mentioned in step 13). Use front bearing adapters to install knuckle and pre press - best fit/installation.
Thread the set bolts through the disc, inner bearing, hub and outer disc. Then, at a later stage, tightening the axle nuts will force the hub all the way through the two inner races of the wheel bearing, which are held in place by the CV joints. The final torque pushes the hub further into the inner bearing race.
The problem could be that the wheel system already has serious mechanical damage. For example, when the front or rear hub bearings start to wear out, your car is likely to be noisy due to friction. If you hear a loud grinding noise from the wheels, your car's bearings are likely bad. Usually you only hear one wheel sound, not all due to uneven tire wear.
Wheel bearings can sometimes make noise for some time before a catastrophic failure occurs, causing the wheel and tire assembly to completely separate from the axle. This is because worn bearings can affect your vehicle's wheel alignment, causing premature and uneven tire wear. The most common causes of wheel bearing failure are: 1) unbalanced wheels, which can be corrected with wheel balancing, and 2) out-of-round tires, which cannot be corrected with wheel balancing; the tire needs to be replaced. For all these reasons, the landing wheels of aircraft and various racing cars are equipped with precision ball bearings.
You'll find ball bearings in wheels of all sizes, from skate wheels to car wheels. Behind every wheel on nearly every new car is a row of tiny ball bearings that keep the wheel spinning continuously. Your car's wheels are very important because without them you can't drive anywhere. If you are using a vehicle such as a shopping cart or trolley, roller bearings will work for them.

I liked the general breakdown of how to work this exact job on this vehichle. However, I do wish there were a few more close ups as I personally was a bit confused about where the cone washers were and what they looked like. This was my first time working on the hubs, bearings, and CV Axles on my 1990 4Runner and this process was far different compared to every other vehichle I had owned before.

@@StandardAmericanOutdoors yea, I got the second gen to be a little bit different from all the 3rd gens out here. I previously had an ‘88 also with the 3.0 and it had 368k miles and still kicking hard when I sold it. I definitely want to upgrade the cooling system. Original radiator, and I can tell it has overheated in the past and there’s a pinhole covered in JB weld, not done by me lol. I would love to get rid of the ifs because I am getting tired of replacing cv axles and I can’t afford RCV’s.
