Exactly the same thing happened to me as well! I bought the violin, went home, tried to tune it, managed to do so for three of the strings, but broke the A string. I wished i have seen this video before, but I will try to fit the string myself as soon as I buy a replacement one.

Moonlight Andreas Wow, that's hard. I've heard of breaking the E string, but I understand the G is harder to break because it's thicker. Thankfully I've never broken a string though. Haven't ever changed them, either.

I got a violin for Christmas and of course I didn't know what I was doing so I started "tuning" it and I pulled back ALL the way to the right and it snapped and hit me in the face and it all just unraveled and fell off. I had it for less than two minutes and I already screwed up. Im so happy I found this video. Thanks a ton.
Broke my E string this morning and thanks to you, I replaced it with no hassle. Thanks again.
Just got my violin today and I managed to break the G string. So I go online and I see that the most difficult one to tune is actually "E" and I'm like : "Dude! You managed to tune the hardest one but you break the thickest one???" Anyway, I knew I could find tips on your channel. Thank you :)
When I heard the word "Unravel" I was like: GHOUL!!!!!!!!!! 😉😂

omg literally same, it kept unraveling and wouldn't tighten, no matter how much I turned the knob and it predictably broke. I tried to restring it and the same thing happened and the spare broke too, apparently you're supposed to coil it tightly on the edge otherwise it'll keep going back
Here's a lesson kiddos; Never tune your e string with headphones on. I think you know where this is going.

About two weeks ago, I bought my first violin. By this time, I fell in love with your video. So clear, and no loss time!! Can't tell thanks enough my gratitude!!
I was holding my violin in front of my case and the case is kinda heavy and I opened the case fast and it hit my violin and broke my E string. It was a school instrument R.I.P good thing I have an extra string.

I thought after playing the guitar for 7 years, the bamboo flute for 4 and having some classes in vocals and keys as a kid I would have some musical and instrumental knowledge and experience. I went and bought the violin. Tried tuning the g string. It broke. My heart broke. And then I found this comment section. Cheers everybody.
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for these videos! We live deep in the country where no violin teacher can be found😬Your videos have put me and my son on a violin playing fun path! We bought your first book! You are so thorough and easy to understand! Thank you so very much and God bless my dear!

Broke my E string today after I first got my violin... Hit me in the face... Golly gee great start
Thank you so much. Broke my string and have rehearsals tomorrow at school but today is Sunday so the place I go is closed. You saved my life.
Broke my first G string, good thing you're here. Thank you
thank you for the tutorial. i play guitar for 10 years almost and started to think about getting a violin. and i did. unfortunately the violin came with very bad strings (in my opinion) but there was a set of new ones. so thanks again for taking away the fear that it might be different from guitar. but it isnt. im a big noob when it comes to violins right now but i hope ill get good soon :)
Thank you so much.My string snapped while i was trying to tuning and i got it fixed by myself after watching this video!!
Thanks you SO much!!! I was trying to tune and then my string had snapped, I was so nervous and I thought I had broke my violin, but thanks to you I was able to fix it and tune it ☺️
Hi Alison Thank you so much. I took your advice and waited and bought the dominant strings. I followed this video and re strung my violin and it already sounds better. Just need a new bow now mine is shot! But thank you for your videos. I unfortunately cannot afford tuition so you are a massive help. Thank you.
Thank you, this helped me so much. I accidentally removed the string after trying to fix a peg which kept slipping and with your help have managed to reattach the string. Thanks again!
I'm a guitarist, have been for 15 years, am looking into Violin--it's what I would've liked to take up originally, but it wasn't exactly affordable back then. Although it's quite clear that both instruments are quite different, it's nice to see that there are still some universal constants/rules with regards to such things as changing strings. Removing them all at once can affect the neck and bridge (depending on one or two factors) through tension--it's rare that I do it. I'll be more likely run a cloth underneath the strings (I set my action a little higher than recommended) if I need to do some cleaning. Still, to this day, it makes me extremely anxious when changing them. I'm not sure how it is with sets of Violin strings, but for guitarists--it's common to have a spare High E string considering it's the most likely to break, and I've had it break during performances when I maybe got a bit too carried away with bends or vibrato.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! My violin instructor was sick today and I couldn't fix my string and you helped me so much!
Thank you! I was able to put the string back on and it's now in tune. Woo!
Was tuning my violin as I was listening to your video on learning the violin in an hour. Tried multi tasking. SNAP. Ended up here.
you can push the peg inwards gently as you urn and tune and that should keep it there.
Thank you so much for this! My school is having a Winter event thing tomorrow, and my orchestra class is in it. I was able to fix my g-string just in time thanks to you 😊
I’m so happy I found this video. My “A” String on my violin broke of two days before my violin concert. I hope this works.
Great tip on tightening the G string, on keeping it taught as you bring it up. Many thanks
I just received my violin today and I was tuning it and popped one of my strings lol! So I jumped right on KZread to learn how to fix it and I found your video. Merci beaucoup!
Needed to replace a string since the previous one was rusty. Thanks for guiding me through it!
You are a life saver!!! Thank you for saving me 30 dollars for something that took me 5 minutes after watching your video. :-)
I just changed my A string. It was ready hard but I somehow managed to do it. It's not the best thing but it looks okay. I tuned it and it sounds great. Thanks for your video and help ❤
Broke my D string not even a few hours after I just got my violin… thank you 😭😭
I believe this video gave me the answers I needed thanks 😃 Im 22 and I just got my violin so I'm doing a lot of this on my own
Thank you so much. My G string 'did break and I am pleased that you did this video. I am a beginner, yet subscribed to you months ago. I look forward to coming to you often. I appreciate all your recommendations and reviews above.
yes i did. As i wind up the string and get to the point where the string is becoming quite taut, this is when i gently push in to help with the tuning as im tightening it. Alison
Broke my string my accident and this REALLY HELPED ! Thanks ^.^
Thank you so much for this video. I broke my G string when playing my violin for the 2nd time. This helped me change my G string so well. Thank you so much
I am happy that this happens to all not just me who broke their violin in just some days they bought it. I was so scared but it is some kind of obstacles occurring in journey 😂❤
KZread is a freaking goldmine. Thank you!
you can buy the whole lot in a set or every sting can be bought separately.
Very helpful video, thank you. Picked up my violin to play again after some yrs. gone by without & needed to replace my G string.
I’ve been playing violin for five years and I haven’t broken any strings until today when I bought my new one :(. Thank you so much for this tutorial 😊😊😊
Thank you so much! I broke my E string within 5 minutes of owning my violin, and now I know how to fix it! :)
Very helpful! Well done. Thank you!
I'm a beginner in all context of the word in violins, and have to say thank you so much for these video's. I had no idea there was a sound post under the bridge you probably just saved me a ton of money. thank you so so much.

You're a lifesaver! Ahhhh, I broke my e string immediately after getting my violin, hahha.
This was easier than expected, thanks a lot
Thank you! Huge help!
Thank you very much for this; you saved me the time and money!
goodness, that was so helpful... thank you!
Thx actually this really helped me :)
I had a rental violin and afterwards this got stuck in my school for 2 months (could not go to school to get it cauz PF the virus). When I got it back all strings were loose and it was not good. I tightened three of them then the 4th one came out. Out of all the strings, it was the E string. Great. So using this video, I got it in, even though it is not in tune(when I try tuning it it breaks off again). Thanks so much for the help!
Thank you, You are really doing a great job
Thanks so much your self explanatory guide. So worth watching this video
I am a beginner and snapping my E string just moments ago brought me to this video 😅 Thanks for the help!
Broke my g string on day one🤣🤣.. glad to have this video !
Thank You so muchhh! Your video really helped my girlfriend and I, she starting to play the violin for the first time!
Thank you for this video!
Thanks so much, this was very helpful!!!
Helped me a lot!
THIS IS SOOOO HELPFUL THANKS
Thanks! This really helped me. :)
This helped so much thanks!
You saved my violin thank you so much:D
Thank you for a very well done and informative post. I actually have TWO violins; one purchased at a thrift store for £30, and the other plucked from a trash bin. The thrift store violin is a white inexpensive beginner's electric ( Cecilio CVNAE ). It's sound post is in place, but the bridge is off and so are the strings. My bin-baby IS branded Sears, Roebuck & Co from ~1920. Binned? Seems it had been sat upon by a hefty person who liked eating biscuits and tarts; lots of biscuits and tarts. Obviously this later instrument will require a bit more effort,, a fair amount of adhesive and a re-varnishing before it is ready for a restringing :-)
Thank you I fixed mine
Thank you!!!! You made my day!
Thanks so much - managed to change the E string on my daughter's violin!
You look like angel in black dress madam!!
you are amazing
Thank you so much!!!
you have to use the pegs if you dont have tuners and you are less likely to break a string with tuners and you can fine tune the strings if its only slightly out
Thx so much! Cuz i need to play tomorrow
Me too, after several of the strings broke for the first time! I feel it helps to push the peg in (cause before the peg would untwist again, and if I kept winding it, the string would break)
It has occurred to me that I need a better violin. You are great.Thank you for the awesome violin video.
Thank you!!
Thank you very much! :)
oh , yes it does make sence :) thanks again
This helped me so much thank u
Thanks for the help :)
thank you for the tutorial :)
Thx soo much ur a life saver
thank you a lot. it helped me a lot lot...
My G string snapped :P Went ahead and ordered a whole set of D'Addario Preludes even though all I need is the G string. It's good to have extra strings on hand just in case. Now I can't practice until those come in.
Your face while slowly tuning could become a music meme. 😂 hilarious . Thanks for the video

Hi, I cant really help im afraid as I dont really know what its all looks like. Carefully use tweezers??? Sorry I cant help much.
You saved me. Thanks.
I broke my first string yesterday trying to see why it was out of tune (yes, i was shown that by moving the pegs it would tighten the strings)and so with that in mind, i thought that by tightening the A string *the string that i broke* by the pegs, I would tune it....that was the biggest mistake i ever did...WHY DIDN'T I COME TO THIS VIDEO FIRST! it honestly would have saved me a lot of money... Any way, thanks so much for this video, i am a beginner and i find your videos really helpful. THANK YOU!
