Thanks for the advice to use blowtorch. I thought my leg was seized inside on the drive shaft, I tried tons of releasing lubricant, hung it upside down and hit it hard but nothing budged. Even hammering wedges into the join did nothing. As you suggested I just tried a blowtorch on the stud at the bottom and hit it REALLY HARD and it is now opened! What a relief. Thanks again for your useful advice about steel bolts in aluminium castings. (I just broke a tiny bit off the upper fin because my hammer missed the wood block but no big deal I don’t think that bit matters.)

That would be Rock oil MPG grease in spray can or tin
