How To Celebrate Your Birthday According to Jewish Mysticism

Do Jews celebrate their birthdays? For most of Jewish history Jews did not celebrate their birthdays. But in 1988 that all changed thanks to one radical Jewish mystic. Find out more in this episode on Jewish Mysticism's Meditations on Birthdays.

This was a fortuitous occasion. My birthday was actually just the day you posted your video. I turned 29, but I already feel much older. So I was feeling that existential weight today even though people were wishing me well. I’m thankful that I have people who care about me and that I’ve been able to uncover deeper passions over the years, but I’ve made major mistakes too and struggle with feeling like I’ve wasted time. So your video touches a chord. Thank you for sharing your journey. You’ve already done so much to repair the world even in little ways. Peace be with you.

Dear Zevi, It would be a honor for me and my family to receive you at our home! Maybe, you will consider to come to Montreal before heading South. It would be a wonderful gift for us. Think about it. Thank you from all my heart for sharing your time, knowledge and Love with us. With love, from a "southern" family that leaves in Canada.

Dear Zevi. Thank you for your articulate sharing of the Hassadic refresh on how to celebrate a birthday. Very inspiring and thought provoking even to someone not Jewish. I have a birthday present for you. I have always had a vague prejuidice against the Rebbe Schneerson based on not much. Due to your devotion presented so gently I did some online research and immediately realized that he must have been an incredible , great human being, spiritual leader and intellect. I am curious now about his writings translated into English. Your planned journey sounds fantastic. I hope you go to the Grand Canyon. Keep us posted! Blessings for your Birthday.

Insightful as always! I can definitely to relate to feeling of that need to slow down in a bit of rejection of the pressure society puts on us, and focus on my on wellbeing and things that really matter. I'm very excited for you that your going to explore the American wilderness! I'm very curious where exactly you plan to go. Some advice, the national parks are great but they have no monopoly on the countries beauty. Particularly in recent years overtourism is a problem and it can really ruin the experience to be constantly encountering people. There's an eclipse coming up real soon in April, I've been looking at traveling up to the shore of Lake Erie in either PA or NY to view it, but it doesn't seem like it'll work out for me sadly. Hopefully you can get to witness it

@@SeekersofUnity I saw that video, but I forgot about it and now I remember why I forgot it so easily. It is painfully both sidesing the issue and calls upon Israel to conduct its war in a just and respectful way. It's not even good "both-sides" content I wouldn't even be posting this if I didn't watch your content for years now. Now all I see are years of you talking yourself into complicity with the horror around you

@3ly3lawy There are no sides my friend. Only humans profoundly suffering because of the deep false narratives we live in. I spent most of my waking energy trying to undo those narratives within my own community, publicly and privately with whatever voice I have, placing myself at constant risk of isolation and alienation from my own community and death treats from strangers on the internet. I will not stop. I will continue to fight for the truth I believe in, that we are all one and the pain of suffering of each, is the pain of suffering of all. It pains me too that I’m not doing more. Thank you for pointing out where I may be falling short. I deeply believe that politics does not hold the solution to the problems we face. Happy to discuss further. With love, Zevi
