How To: Catch Striped Bass on Super Strike Poppers

Ойын-сауық

Today, I'm gonna show you some helpful things to keep in mind when fishing for striped bass with Super Strike Poppers.
This particular lure is the sinking model. Super Strike also makes a floating popper and an x-tra heavy popper, and they are marked by having green and red eyes respectively. Their sinking popper (standard) features the black eyes, and is generally the most used model.
In this video, I surfcast for striped bass using the sinking popper. These can be very effective lures if you know how to properly work them. The wind was howling in my face, and the super strike popper is one of the few lures in my bag that cuts the wind extremely well.
Hopefully you learn something by watching this tutorial! Or at the very least gain some confidence in sinking poppers by watching. They are sometime overlooked, but can be some of the best striper lures out there, especially during the spring striped bass run.
This particular color is great when the herring are around!

That's a great spot to fish - been landing a bunch there again this year. maybe ill see you out there sometime. (for all those asking, i won't give the spot away, but i think it's fine to say it's cape cod.)

@@elcaminosoldier1 -Only the “heavy” red eyed plugs came with the dressed hook. - The standard black eye sinking poppers all come with trebles. Only the 2020 “new color” plugs come with the single. - I run 5/0 dressed siwash with hackle feathers.

Hi, never used sinking poppers. In your video (nice video) you share some tips but if you or someone you expand a little more on how to use sinking poppers I would really appreciate it. Are different techniques for "sinking" and "fast sinking"? How deep I can let it sink? Once I retrieve it to the top can I worked it like a floating popper? Thanks

I bought a couple of these so-called “popper lures” and thought they would float on the surface of the water, but instead they sink! Now, you seem to also have the same kind of sinking lure that I have, do you work these lures on the surface by reeling it in kind of fast to keep it from sinking or do you let it sink and work the lure beneath the surface? If the latter, do you work it just below the surface or work it on the bottom of the water column? Thanks ahead if you can enlighten me on this confusing lure! I appreciate it!

Nice video!. I fear for that index finger though. Casting with no guard regardless of experience all it takes is one slip for that line to hit the bone.

Since this video I've been using a finger guard. I learned my lesson while I was pulling an FG knot tight and got sliced pretty good lol. Braid is some crazy stuff!

I know youre using the sinking model but its hard to tell if youre working it at the surface at all. Is that something that youre doing in this video or are you strictly working it subsurface?

I wouldn't recommend it. It weighs 2 & 3/8ths ounces which is too heavy for most freshwater setups. Smaller poppers like Lucky Craft's Bevy 50 are great in freshwater though!
