In this catch n cook:
My friend Randolph and his son Hans are driving down in Florida and meeting me in Key Largo to do some snapper fishing! We put the boat in at John Pennekamp state park which is located in Key Largo and provides quick boating access to the Florida Keys patch reefs.
If you know the South Florida Fishing Channel, then you know Heiko Winkler loves to do some patch reef fishing. On the Key Largo patch reefs you can find mangrove snapper, mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper and a variety of great fish that make for some awesome catch clean cook fishing episodes!
Through this fishing trip I add tips that I use on how to catch snapper. I use these how to catch snapper tips for any species of snapper. You may catch monster mangrove snapper or monster mutton snapper using these fishing tips in key largo. These fishing tips will probably work on any patch reef in the Florida Keys.
I just moved back to Key Largo so my cooking equipment is a little limited so the catch and cook part of this how to video is on a propane burner. Also the cleaning part of the snapper. The catch clean cook is done on the boat.
The mangrove snapper I catch on the patch reef is 22 inches long. I consider any mangrove snapper over 20 inches a monster. One time I caught a mangrove snapper that was 24 inches while night fishing the florida keys patch reefs. That was a monster mangrove snapper alright! I'll never forget that night of fishing.
We also do a little offshore fishing off of the patch reefs. But we always stick to bottom fishing. We didn't do any trolling for fish, but we did drift the bottom with live baits and picked up a kingfish. That is actually also how we caught the mutton snapper. Now it wasn't a monster mutton snapper but it was still a great fish so congratulations Hans for catching that fish! I hope your catch and cook was killer!
I will keep improving my snapper fishing skills and will work on a better video on how to catch mutton snapper. All the yellowtail snapper we caught were not monsters BUT in the video I am upload saturday we catch some nice yellowtail snapper!
I hope you enjoyed this How to Catch MONSTER Snapper on Florida Keys Patch Reefs | Catch and Cook fishing episode on the South Florida Fishing Channel. Please leave a like and comment to show your support. Thank you!

I want to thank you from my heart for everything you encourage us viewers to do with our ambitions and dreams. The only one that can change our outcome and attain our goals is us. Just like the only one who can get in our way is also us. I’m glad you didn’t allow negative people or your ex to dictate your happiness and ambitions👍🏼 keep those lines tight and I’d love to see you out on the water sometime soon

When making beer batter, super cool your beer by putting in the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes. Then pour into a glass or bowl to get rid of the foam. Add a tablespoon or so of baking powder to the flour. Just some ideas but looks super good.

My bad bro, but I almost hesitated to hit the like button because I grew up in Brandon, Florida outside of Tampa and while sometimes in the winter I would rock a sweater, I would never cry about 62 degrees being cold...lol! Especially now considering the fact that I live an hour north of Pittsburgh and this morning when I woke up it was 20 degrees and there was 5" of snow on the ground and I had to drive 2 hours to get to work. The only thing worse than that, and the Polar Vortex that we had in 15 and 16 was on 2/14/10 when we had 28" of snow overnight and it was 12 degrees. I lived in Allentown, PA back in 1993 when we got 29" overnight and another 8" the next day. We moved down to Brandon, Florida Christmas Day of 1993. I was just playing about hesitating to hit the like button, I always hit it before watching the videos. I was just joking about the 62 degree thing. That happens when you spend your entire life in south Fluurrda.

My favorite way to get mangroves is with a speargun. I used JB weld to plug a hole in my coolant jug on my truck. Lasted for 6 months before I got around to replacing the jug with a new one... As for the rims, just find someone selling their stock rims and tires on Craigslist. It will ride smoother and you won’t crack anymore rims.

Conventional rig with a half ounce above the swivel and then at least six feet of monofilament to a 2/0 hook. Knockers rig and the jigs were just getting the small Grunts and yellow tails.

Suggest sell three tires rims and wheels, purchase four used ones, replace. eBay is good. Good luck
