This is the best way to catch a trophy 🏆 bass in a pond ... if there's a big bass in a pond u will definitely catch it like this no doubt... my mom would catch baby bream on a fiberglass bream buster pole and I set her up another bream buster with 🕷spider wire and a 4.0 worm 🪱 hook with live baby bream as the bait and my mama caught a 9lb bass & 8 lb bass and a 6.5 lb bass all the same day ... best memories and fishing trip of our life together and it was the last fishing trip b4 she past ... Musky or northern.... often when perch or crappie, or 'gill fishing in Wisconsin you get one on then they get slammed , usually you lose both fish cuz of having no leader but occasionally you land them!! 🎣

@@tommycarrizal1656 I'm from Wisconsin..We were Mainly fishing for Walleyes on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage lake (Northern Wisconsin) As I'm pulling up a 14" Walleye (on a 6' medium action rod & 10 lb test line) a Musky came up & grabbed it wouldn't let it go.. About 10 minutes later My uncle netted it..It was 46.5" & weighed almost 32 lbs..🤯 That's when I was 16 I'm 42 now & have been fishing around 500 times since I was a kid & 20 times of them for Musky specifically & have only caught 2 other ones..A 33" & a 38" so I was extremely lucky to say the least to catch that one.. Hopefully someday you can get to Wisconsin and try for yourself 👍💯❤️🎣

Also make sure you are allowed to do this in your state.

Try a 4/O circle hook. You only have to reel down on them that way, almost guaranteed hook up. And I like to use a slip bobber, still gives the fish the freedom of no bobber but you still get a clear view of the takedown. Nice video.

Hell yeah top notch catfish bait as well even had them work in salt water when I was lacking bait

For using this in the future. Hold the bluegill up the the sun and look at its skeletal structure. Avoid them bones and increase the longevity and liveliness of the bait.

I use live bluegill for catfish you can't keep a bluegill alive long enough if you hook it up like this guy

Ya know......I grew up doing this very same thing and then one day I remembered the golden rule and put myself in the position of the blue gill. I thought why am I killing this fish to catch a bigger fish to reel it in and say yep that's a big fish. Artificial bait works too. Sorry don't mean to sound like liberal Larry. Imagine yourself with a hook thru your back and used for bait so a giant human could swallow you whole. Sounds pretty shitty to me. God put plants and animals on this planet for us to use and eat.....not to play with. Also you must honor and respect the life that an animal gives you in sacrifice for your own.

I feel you man, as a kid I always wondered at what point does an animal stop mattering, like we care about dogs and horses but not cows and pigs. We don’t seem to care about small animals like fish or birds although they have a lot of personality as well.. I’d suggest to creator/ other live bait fisherman to explore SWIMBAIT FISHING. there is nothing better than watching an 8 a 5 and a 4 pounder follow back your REUSABLE bluegill glide bait, hooking the 8, and then catching the 5 next cast 20 seconds later, and getting a picture of both :) no disrespect to live bait fisherman, I use croaker and live shrimp all the time, but only when I’m eating my catch. For bass fishing there are more humane ways, unless you guys keep bass too, then you’re just too far gone.

I used to do this all the time. Would go to the lake literally with one large hook, one small Hook, and a slice of bread. I would use the bread to catch a small sunny and put him on the big hook just like this. Worked EVERY time. Would catch monsters off of a dock at a campground I would go to with my family

Just a heads up... check your local regulations before doing this. It's highly illegal in some places. And if you bought the bluegill you'd better be able to prove that you bought it and didn't catch it then use as bait

In Nevada and Arizona, it's highly ileagle to catch stripped bass with a trout. You can catch some big fish that way though.

I think it's illegal to use them for bait where I live since they're considered game fish here in Minnesota.

Never tried on bluegill, but goldfish works every damn time !!!!

That’s how I caught my second ever bass. Dropped it right in front of his face, 4lb’er off a popular fishing pier, probably the biggest bass caught off that pier.

Live bait is the best at catching most fish, they love it! I've been fishing for over 40 years and counting, at 51 years of age and I love fishing, I may not catch anything but, it's mainly just the being outdoors on a riverbank or lake very calming at least for me. Nice job though 👍🏻

Used to do this as a kid with treble hooks. I would catch so many bass we would be there all day in the summer and a bit in the winter too (obviously different setups).

Hooking it through the lips is better because bass eat fish head first so it’ll get the hook first

I caught my first big bass on a bluegill eyeball prob 2 pbs at local res when i was a kid. I ran out of corn to catch bluegill and tried to use a bluegill eyeball and caught a lunker for my day.

Sun perch red ear and blue gill are all in the same family but not all are blue gill…. Blue gill have a purple Hue to them.

This might be a stupid question but when u use live bait and your catch swallows it, does it normally get the whole bait fish off the hook and it is stomach or are u pulling out pieces of bait fish with your hook ? kinda weird but just wondering

I normally get the hook out of the fish, but when it doesn’t come out, the hook degrades in the fishes mouth. It doesn’t hurt them anymore.

I never understood the appeal of bass or trout fishing. They are so small. No fight.

Try to hook it through the lips the bass is most likely going to headshot it so you want that hook there. Hooking it behind the dorsal fin is good for cat fish.

Hook it through its mouth, through the gill plate, keeps the bluegill alive longer, the bass hit the bluegill when they are lively, catfish will only hit on dead bluegill

Probably because of the bobber. It keeps them in a different depth. In the gulf I use a sinker for reds and a free line for blues in the same hole same bait.

Nice one. Hard to beat bluegills when the bass are gill eaters. Sometimes when there is better forage they tend to not eat bluegills. I think maybe its the fins. Some lakes here wth shad or kokanee they literally ignore gills 😂

How do you know its less painful? The bluegill that talk to me say it's way more painful in the lip.

Also if your doing this in a heavy weeded area hook them through the tail so you can drag them through the weeds..

My mad using an ewg work hook for live bluegill. Yeah it works but in order for maximum fish catching. You need to have a circle or live bait hook

I've seen a 14 inch small mouth bass try to swallow a 10 inch trout. Swam off with the tail sticking out of it's mouth.

Ideal for fishing in private ponds full of bass.
