I know a few spots similar to this. I couldn't figure out how to harvest massive amounts for two decades. Why didn't i think of this? Glad I looked it up! Thanks for making this video! Now I'm going to see if i need a commercial license or whatever to sell to bait shops.

This looks like an excellent method for catching these crabs. But I bet if you got you a ten gallon Hat, a pair of boots, a couple horses and some Chewing tobacco it would significantly speed up the process and make it more streamline. You gotta watch out where you spit though you might take one of these little guys out.

+Jiyong Han Using my knowledge as a Florida native, fiddler crabs can replenish their number in a rather short amount of time compared to other kinds of crabs. I'm not sure about the actual numbers and dates but I think even after all they took the population should be back up in a couple months. Plus did you see how many of them there were? He took 2-3 buckets and there still a huge number of crabs left. At $300 a bucket that whole horde is probably worth $2,000. Leaving enough to repopulate ensures you can get much more than two grand over time, though ;)

+A Giz For fiddler crabs? You bet your ass there's a demand for it. It's a great bait in Florida for catching all kinds of things. Especially sheepshead, a very delicious fish. Some people grind them up and put them in cheese cloth for chum when catching live fish for bait with nets.

I am no hippie but aren't these spawning crabs, don't they live in the ocean and come to land to spawn, Would it be a bit more effective to find an after spawning catching technique. They have to return to the sea at some point, most likely the same way they came in. Just sayin , cool video though

Actually, the fiddler crab is not a species that spends its life underwater. Fiddler crabs commonly live on land and also have the ability to survive underwater.

I understand that these guys want to go fishing and all. But I mean 5 gallons worth of fiddler crabs is way more than enough. I don't think any of these people took into consideration how long it will actually take to use all those Up as bait. I see people doing this kind of thing all the time with fiddler crabs. It's inexcusable. There should be some law that allows only like 10 crabs per person.

They're collecting them to sell at a bait shop. There are quite literally millions upon millions of them in any area such as this. If the population was in danger or it was effecting other species, there would be regulations on it. Also, 10, seriously? 10 will maybe last you maybe and hour, much less of you're actually getting bites.

If you want to be an environmentalist then be an informed environmentalist. Do you even know anything about fiddler crabs? Do you know if they're invasive, what other wildlife eats them, if fiddler crab population is in danger, or if there is plenty of other food for that wildlife besides fiddler crabs? National fish and wildlife service pays attention to those things because they're informed.
