    Great Video but might need to change the title. Didn't see much pilchards and sardine being caught. I would like to see a video specifically on how to catch them in Miami Area.

    What is the floating baitwell? I have some metal livebait cages at home, but baits get beat up.

  • @fishbluewater

    @fishbluewater

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes, metal bait cages are much harder to keep clean as well. The floating baitwells in the video are 200 gallon chemtainers.

    Does clarity of water matter ? I generally fish out of marathon key when I come down and seem to find them better where the water is murkier , inlets , cuts etc . Haven’t had much luck out trying for bait fish out on patch reefs. Early mornings best? Watch for birds working ?

  • @fishbluewater

    @fishbluewater

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey Adam. Great questions. Yes, water clarity definitely matters. Murkier water is definitely better, which is one of the reasons that we fish for herring on the outgoing tide. And yes, early morning is typically the best because they are generally up on the surface feeding and it is easier to find them. Definitely keep an eye our for terns and yellow beaks working. If you see them diving and darting around they are probably on bait. Let us know how you do!

    You can see the air space at 7:38 on that livewell. It’s the position of your overflow drain and size of pump that will eliminate any air space. Creating an air tight seal on your livewell is just producing more head pressure on your pump.

  • @fishbluewater

    @fishbluewater

    2 жыл бұрын

    If the lid is not pressurized you will never completely seal the well and have sloshing that destroys the bait

  • @fishbluewater

    @fishbluewater

    2 жыл бұрын

    And too much water pressure in a well is not good for scaled baits either

    Where can I catch bait in Miami now? I only ever see ballyhoo at bent range rarely anything else. I also see cigars every once in a while.

  • @fishbluewater

    @fishbluewater

    It can change daily based on water conditions, current, etc. Look for the tide edges on out going tide inside and outside the inlet. Often times you will mark bait and catch it on the tide line. The patch reefs in 20 to 30 feet of water just north of the cut and further north to the double diamonds hold thredfins and other bait at times as well

    @@fishbluewater ok thanks what are the double diamonds? Kind of new to catching bait but whenever I catch I always catch fish offshore so I’m trying to get better.

    Hey Jamie. Do you have any advice on feeding threadfins to keep them alive in your pen. Thanks

  • @fishbluewater

    @fishbluewater

    Жыл бұрын

    It usually takes a few days for them to settle in and start feeding. Cut up small pieces of fish like bonito, king or anything really. Good processors are great to chop up bait too. Start by introducing bait slowly a couple times a day until they start feeding good. The next step would be dry food that you can buy at most tackle shops and slowly get them adjusted to that so you don’t have to feed fish all the time.

    Great video. Thanks. 1) how big the weight/sinker you are using? I believe it's very important. 2) it will be great if you can show a video how to set up the floating bait pen at your dock. It's big headache for most of us. The growth will sink the bait pen and hurt the bait fish. Thanks!

  • @fishbluewater

    Weight size varies based on depth and current but 1/2 oz to 1 oz is the norm. We can definitely do a video on how to build and set up a bait pen!
