@@blinkie1114 I have a video of a project coming soon that I do this in but yesss I will make a note for future tutorials 💗 thanks so much for watching
Could you in theory make a prong setting with wax? I dont see how because you wouldnt be able to put the stone back in, but is it appropriate to for example build up prongs that are still standing up straight, cast that and then push in the prongs? Or is it standard practice to solder on the prongs after casting? Its literally the last question I have about castint and I cant find the answer anywhere 😂
Thank you for a wonderful tutorial! Can you show us how you pop off the stone?
Could you do a pt 2 video on what to do next? 🙏🏻💜

This is an awesome tutorial. How do you remove the gemstone?
hey i love your work and your videos and everything around it! i was wondering if you send the wax ring off just like that or do you have to attach that little thing for the casting tree that you need to take off again after it has been cast? (sorry i have no idea what the correct words are for this, hope you can follow) would that be the same process for bigger pieces say like a pendant that is as big as your palm for example? hope it's not rude asking so much in one comment

I take my stones out before casting. If you want to cast in place there are a few changes you need to make to the design! I’d suggest doing some research there’s lots of info out there on how to do it. I might make a video about cast in place one day

Google “metal casting” or “metal foundry” in your local area/state/country :)
how do you remove the stone from the wax? amazing video btw

By gently teasing it out with the scalpel. The blue wax is slightly supple and can gently be manipulated to help get the stone out too ☺️

@anyotherkingdom

I tease it very gently - try masking tape on your mandrel that should help ☺️
So helpful, thank you! When I am melting the wax (soldering iron heats up to around 200 degrees Celsius and is not adjustable) a lot of smoke occurs and it smells really toxic, is that still normal? Do you think a face mask for protection is enough?
@anyotherkingdom
4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment, I would recommend using a face mask yes! You could try turning the temperature down a bit tho to minimise the smoke. I’ll do some research and get back to you

Yess!! So you send the wax off to a foundry / metal casting company and they will cast it for you. Alternatively you can cast it yourself the process is called lost wax casting and requires a lot of equipment that I dream to one day own ❣️ so glad you loved the video

This build-up method seems way harder and more time-consuming than carving. What made you decide to do it this way?

I love to experiment and I ended up loving the effect!! I personally find carving very time consuming and I don’t like the thought of all those bits of wax flying around from filing and ending up in my lungs 😷
