I think Kevin must be a Bob Ross fan, too. Besides the "happy little tree" reference, Kevin also says "Don't worry about doing this perfectly...you're going to make mistakes," and so on. Bob Ross' second most used saying was "We don't make mistakes, we have happy little accidents." I miss that guy.

I want to thank you for this video. I just incorporated what you taught here into an ammo pouch that I am making. Being new to this craft I don't have those exact tools that you mentioned in the video. But I used what I had available to do my own carving of some pine trees and landscape on the ammo pouch I am creating. Shame I can't show you the picture of how it turned out. Thank you very much Kevin for sharing your videos - I’m starting out again. I did a little bit of leather work before I suffered a stroke in 2019. I was an engineer before that . As a stroke survivor - I enjoy finding those ways to help my brain work ~ I enjoyed your video . I’m hoping that I can get to do this myself, As I am building up the strength in my right hand. I’m probably getting a little bit older now, I am also an army veteran. Gareth

Having never done any pictorial carving I am about to start carving a bonsai tree. My problem is I can’t figure out which side of the line to bevel on the trunk, any advice would be great

looked for the stamps for the tree online and either they are restricted to your website or just the USA cant be got in the UK and I have found some are too expensive for the average person so we have to do without so I am not surprised the industry is falling over a cliff.

Kevin, in your video you talk about using good leather. I've been using pre-dyed leather that's about a quarter inch in thickness. When I use my knife and stamps it just won't make any marks in the leather. Is that due to having not enough thickness or the dye that is in the leather? What kind of leather should I look for specifically when I want to do it right the next time?

Hi, Claire! Ideally, you should use vegetable tanned leather for carving and stamping. Pre-dyed leather does not take moisture as well. Make sure you are wetting the leather before carving or stamping. The ideal leather thickness depends on your project. For example, you will need thinner leather to make a wallet and thicker leather to make a saddle. However, 3-4 oz. leather is probably the minimum desired weight for carving and stamping. hello, do i buy the stamps u used separately or does it come in a kit? I like your style some other videos i wont mention the guy is talking to fast. Trees and mountains are my favorite. I started painting a few years back bob ross style and maybe i could practice a water fall in the mountain scene. Thanks again for this great video

when Kevin says trees are the usual weakness, he must be thinking of me back in the 80s when he had a store in Fargo ND and he and I were founders of Dakota Leather Guild. My trees still look mostly dead.

The bob ross of leather work. Good video, but the camera work/editing needs some improvement. Either the camera man doesnt zoom in when its needed or your not giving him time to zoom in on some of the videos. I know this is an older video, maybe its better on the current ones.

Kevin I know this is an older video, so you may not even see this post, but!!!! I've sat here in front of my computer and watched this same video no less than 100 times with a piece of scrap ( it is now) leather in front of me trying to go step by step with you. I'm not gettin' it! I'm new to this whole tooling thing, and I love your panel, but...like I said, I just "ain't " gettin' it? I'm seeing a number of changes in your panel from one shot to the next. And when you show your work to the cameraman on YOUR right, some shots aren't making it into the video and that's frustrating. I think this is one of the best pieces of Leather carving that I've ever seen and would love to recreate it, but I don't seem to be able to grasp it? I noticed that in view 1 your basic tool stamps aren't that crowded like they are in view 2? It just seems like the panel you're stamping and the one you're photographing, aren't the same panel every time? I'd like to see a step by step repeat of this video with constant filming and shots of each step. Sorry if I sound "elementary", but I LOVE your work and want to replicate it so this is frustrating.
