Hey Ryan great video best Bigfoot face I have seen!!! Hey where are you located. My chainsaw artist got into a bit off trouble and won’t available for some time lol. I have a very cool back yard and he was going to carve a Bigfoot looking around a 150 year old black walnut tree . So hopefully you are not to far away! Thanks Joe

Thanks for the tutorial Ryan! It would be nice at the end of your videos to do a full walk around of the carving. I’d also like a little tutorial on what you use for stain/waterproofing and if you like one type of paint better than another etc.

That's nice. Scaling looks great. You're dead on about trusting your instinct. Years ago a fellow that worked for me ran a couple hundred feet of pipe thru a lab hallway along a divider wall, insisted it was level, it was, he put a torpedo level on every piece, but the wall wasn't level. After about a dozen people walked by and said "why is the pipe crooked?" I had him re-hang it to match the top of the wall. The rule after that was "if it looks right, it IS right". My carvings follow the rule, the hard things are the things people see all the time. I hate doing eyes. You can get away with murder on woodspirits or aliens or fantasy creatures because nobody has seen one (lately anyway), but screw up a dog or a circle or (Ugh) Eyes, and a 3 year old will point at it and know it's wrong. Thanks Ryan, I'll be firing up the saws before the snow flies, was looking at a Harbor Freight Jawhorse yesterday Seems OK for a HF (still $129 for a HF copy!!, maybe I'll wait till I can get a Rockwell for another 50?). As soon as I get one, I'm going to give it a go. Don't think Bigfoot would be a good starter. Ideas on a 1st time saw carving? Sticker shock on your cool powered respirator $485 - guess I'll stick with my 3M paint spray model for a while. Someday... Thanks for the lesson!

So much to learn. When you carve something like a big foot, or fantasy creature, how much license do you take to make it up or do you try to make it look similar to current perceptions of what the general population thinks it should look like? Thanks for sharing.
