How to Care for Watermelon Plants during the Grow Season? 🍉 🍉 🍉

Amazon Affiliate Link
amzn.to/43NMgxl Boogie Brew Compost Tea (3lbs Makes 50 gallon of Tea)
In this video I demonstrate how to care for watermelon plants during the Grow Season. One Game Changer tip is to prune the vines of the plant. This means to take the suckers off the vine. The sucker is a secondary vine that branches off from the main vine. When there are more that one watermelon on a vine it's best to prune one melon off. This will cause the plant to place more energy into the watermelon that is left on the vine. Increasing the side of the watermelon is the side effect of pruning. Fertilizing throughout the growing season is also a critical element in producing a giant. I use compost as well as compost tea. The tea stretches a long way. This is an organic fertilizer that can be applied as much as the grower desires. The plant will not burn because of the tea. Checking the leaves for bugs will help identify problems. Bugs can suck the sap out of the plants causing major problems if not dealt with. Remember to water the plants at the base because by doing so decreases the chance of diseases. Fungus on the plant may stop the production of the fruit. When harvesting the watermelons make sure the tendrils are dried out and cut back on watering to insure the watermelons are sweet. Lastly using mulch will help you with watering. The chances of irregular watering decreases.

@@GrowSomethingTasty we don’t have experience doing it in hidden patches… we want to plant caches everywhere around our city… LIKE a community garden but just in the neglected areas of our city… my husband is a land surveyor that knows a lot of abandoned land. We want to do this to give more to the people in need. The community gardens suck here and people are more takers than caretakers of the plants. Is there an email I could send u when we start transplanting?

Cutting off the small watermelon does reroute energy back into the remaining watermelon, but you could have left the leaves, because not only do they not take energy away from the fruit, but they actually add more energy through photosynthesis.

I would suggest getting a jump on cutting suckers and extra fruit as soon as you can because if you let them go too long, it'll be a spaghetti bowl of vines and it's a pain in the ass to try and trace the main stem to cut suckers etc. Next year I'll have to stay on top of it. HELLO Rhonda, first-time gardener, that is great. You have a lot of plants, and that is awesome. I wish you the best and hope you get a big harvest. Hey, look up the squashbug so you know what it looks like. In my first year of growing watermelons, I did not have any of them. But when they came, they stated. Just keep checking your leaves, and if you see clusters of eggs, remove them. They are brown when they are about to hatch the color, which turns dark bronzes. But you got this. If I can help with a question, let me know.
