Well done!!! You answered my question I was going to ask you about making that cut from the back of the skull down the neck instead of tubing it. I would think by doing that cut it wouldn't take so long going all the way around neck?

Most taxidermists use a Y cut to remove the head cape and antlers. Some cut all the way to the back of the cape so they can use a larger form as the wet tan hide will stretch quite a bit

My taxidermist said to cut the head off right behind the ears should I just cape it EXACTLY how you did he never mentioned splitting the top of the neck to the head and I’ve always seen capes being tubed to the back 6” of neck but it’s been some years now and I kinda forgot 😂

My taxidermist likes to have the skull and 6 inches of neck meat for measuring to get the proper form. They'll typically just use the cap and cape, but they need to get a form that will fit your deer

You went to far down the neck .....you need to leave about 5 inches of neck meat so that the Taxidermist can get measurements for the form.
