1.54 is conversion factor of wet volume to dry volume of concrete i.e., dry volume = wet volume + 54% of wet volume = 1+0.54=1.54. that's it.

The correct calculation for the sand should be 0.428. As a check the total of adding the volume of the cement, the sand and the aggregate should be about 1.57 m3. Adding your calculations of 0.285, 0.471 and 0.856 the total is 1.612 m3. Sorry for the correction. I know you know what you are talking about and I am actually learning a lot from you presentation. I am not a civil engineer.

for anyone asked about 1.57 I just give a small example. Take a Piece of Bread and pour water on it. does it give a same Volume..!! as given before pour of water. Noooo,, not.. Because of Voids present in Bread, compressibility will be happens so there is a change in initial to final volume.Same thing happens in Concrete also. Basically concrete has a mixture of cement , sand, and Coarse aggregates. there is so much voids will be there at the time of Dry mix. So to balance this our ancient people did a Few Trial Mixes, and came to a conclusion that, if you want a 1 Cum of wet concrete means, you have to Make a Dry mix of about 52 to 54% extra volume(1.52 to 1.54). These extra dry volume will get balance to 1 Cum after pouring water. This is main concept Behind that 1.54

The way you have converted cement volume into Kgs by multiplying with the density, it is similarly expected that the weights of corresponding materials is also calculated which is cleaely missi g in the vdo... It is also expected that the IS codal reference is also displayed which boosts the confidence of learners

My opinion it will be more complicated if you will subtract the volume of steel to the volume of mixture but, anyway that volume is an add on and does not affect the stregth of the column
