I’m done with selling stuff on eBay. I sold a Rockman X100 to a guy. I tested it before I shipped it, and it worked great. I packed it in an eggshell foam lined hardcase, put the case into a box, and surrounded it with shipping material that was bags full of air, like bubble wrap on steroids. The buyer claimed it showed up not working and demanded his money back. EBay told me I had to accept the return even though my sale clearly said no returns. $30 of shipping costs later I got the item back, plugged it in, and it worked great. I guess I was just lucky I got it back in the same condition in which I shipped it. I’ve heard horror stories of buyers taking a hammer to stuff they bought and shipping it back in pieces just to get their money back. I even read a story about a guy who shipped a brand new laptop and the buyer claimed that the seller had packed a plank of wood in the box and sent it to him. EBay backed up the buyer and the seller had to refund him over $2000 and the buyer got to keep the laptop. Don’t sell anything on eBay, but buy away because you can set fire to the item you bought and return the ashes and eBay will back you up, but only if you’re a buyer.

Just to add- most pawn shops will give you 40% - 50% of what an item will sell for on ebay, they will try to sell for the highest sell they can find on ebay- so if you are buying from a pawn shop- look to see what the lowest sell price on ebay is- you can usually get it for that- but offer less because you never know how long its been sitting there - they might take it

I TOTALLY agree - eBay really sucks if you're selling stuff - ANY stuff. The last time I sold a piece of merchandise (not a guitar, but the principle is the same) on eBay, I got what I asked for it, all right - however, I wouldn't get my money for 28 days. Why? Because I wasn't one of those people who sells an average of $2,500 of merchandise a month. In the meantime, the buyer is getting antsy, and rightfully so. I took a chance and sent the item to him, hoping I wasn't going to get it in the shorts when it turned out to be a scam. Fortunately, the buyer was for real, he was grateful to receive what he paid for, and I was eventually paid, but that experience told me what I needed to do. As soon as I retrieved my money, I canceled both my eBay AND PayPal accounts. eBay hasn't come to grips with this sad truth: treat your members like shit, and they'll just go away. And don't get me started on PayPal!

guitar shops has lots of overhead to settle...busniess rentals staff salaries etc....and when they buy your guitar they have to resell it at certain price to cover up all their expenses etc...that is business .....and there are some guitars keeping dust for months and years in the stores and cant sell which most like they will sell at low offer price with very little profit....selling to end user is totally different thing....think about all that....that is why almost all guitar shops are like that....most of the sellers have difficulties selling their guitars or gear that is why they go to guitar shops as last resort.......the the guitars is the only place buying back your hard to sell guitar........

My biggest frustration with ebay is people listing Squire guitars as Fender or Epiphone or Orville as Gibson, you have to scroll through dozens of high priced Squires or Epi's mixed in with lower priced Fender or Gibson Bargains. Annoying!!!!!

The corporate stores offer you 60% of what it sells for used. A $400 amp sells for $350 used, they'll offer you $180 bucks. Best deal out there, unless you sell it yourself.

I buy lots of guitars on eBay BUT ONLY because I am a luthier and can fix most issues. I wouldn't recommend other people to do it without those skills. Same with pawn shops - the guitars are usually beat up or even warped. Some of the worst condition guitars I've worked on came from pawn shops. I know this video is a few years old but there are some good online sites where you can get good deals - Thomann, Rondo, Monoprice, etc., but you still have to know how to set them up because they get drop-shipped from a factory. A lot of the info on this vid is outdated.

I have been with ebay since it was text only....well, since the net was dial-up text only on a green screen monitor....and ebay is NOT the end all at all. I have been ripped on ebay as much as I have on Reverb, iOffer, etc. Want a smooth trans action? ASK A QUESTION NOT COVERED IN THE AD. My favorite is "Does it work? Could you plug it in and post a picture of it lit up?" 99% of the ad's describe the item, show 1.2 million pictures of it, and says it works, but it is NEVER LIT UP! The response I get tells me what kind of seller I am dealing with. Also, to the guy who says that ebay always backs the buyer, wrong. I have had 2 instances where I was 110% in the right, with ALL proof from everyone, and ebay ripped me off. As with life, just use common sense and beware!

I stick with craigslist. Why? Shipping, fakes, condition problems on eBay. Maybe I can ship it back and get my money back. Hassle. Bought and sold literally dozens of guitars on craigslist. Get to check it out and know what I'm buying. Get a stack of 20's when I sell.

It's funny how this guy advocates doing the same things as an eBay buyer that he finds insulting as an eBay seller. He says retail shops only care about 'the dollar' - which is precisely what he cares about trying to low-ball an eBay seller. Talk about double standards.
