Like a code for a game? No. All I did was buy an eshop card from a store scratched it off entered the code and purchased the single person 12 month membership kind of as if I was downloading a game but instead I am buying the membership.However, there are cards that I have seen in store that are specifically for the online membership.

Hey! thanks for the advise, this is very useful! just one question, can i also buy the game vouchers directly from the eshop? lets say i put charge 110USD to my account, can i use that for buying 1 month (dunno how much the taxes will be so just in case) and then the voucher from what's left in the account?

I just looked and unfortunately you can't get family plan with an eshop. I wish that is something that can change but they probably have their reasons.

What plan are you trying to get & how much do you have on your card? There is a little bit of tax charge & if family plan is what you're getting sadly eshop card doesn't work with family plan.

If important, please pin this. I bought a family membership, which others have mentioned as not offering use of "available funds." Although I was forced to select "credit card," instead,itvmay interest some to knowvthat afyer I saved my credit card information, not only did the fees get deducted from available funds instead of accruing to my credit card bills, but there was an option, under "account information," to delete my recently saved credit card information. Deleting it changed the autorenewal payment method to "available funds" (gift card balance). Knowing Nintendo, Sony, Google & microsoft, Nintendo probably still has my credit card information squirreled away, somewhere typically insecure, though, so a family membership might still pose risks.

You only need it for online play no other reason. Kind of like Splatoon 2 you can play story mode without the online but the main fun is in online

My local cvs has the Nintendo switch online cards, are they the same thing as the eshop cards? I know this sounds stupid. I just don't want to have to put in a card. 😅

I would say that the Nintendo Switch Online cards are specifically for the online service. Similar as when you see cards with a specific game it's for that game only.

If I get an individual membership, will it ask me for a credit card? If not, does it work with Pokemon Sword and Shield?

If you get the individual plan you can buy it with an eShop card & you will need online for Pokemon.

tbh for one account for a year it's only $20 within the states. If you have multiple accounts within the same region it's going to be cheaper to get a family plan BUT you need to attach a credit card for a family plan. I personally have two accounts one has online the other doesn't but if I were to get online I might as well get family plan ($35) rather than buy two individual one year accounts ($40)

Automatic renewal will automatically take money out of your account for the subscription if you have enough. I personally would turn them off to be safe rather than sorry.

Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service so you do have to keep paying it and it all depends with what plan you go with. Also, as of last year there is an N64 Expansion pass which costs more money

An eshop card usually charges no tax but if u buy it online it might be different. However, eshop tends to charge a little tax at times. To be safe get an eshop card a little higher than $20.

Yes I buy an eShop card every year when the sub is about to end. If you go the card route go for $25 or $30 for the sake of taxes unless you have a few dollars worth of gold points.

Yes. Once you have Nintendo Online you can play online modes in Splatoon (obviously as long as you have internet).

I'm a kid and I made a parent account so I could buy a family mebership. When I try to buy the membership with nintendo e shop cards the available funds option is'nt there for me like it is for you at 1:50. I'm not sure if this is a glitch, if it's because of the version, or if you cant buy family memberships with e shop cards. Please help me.

I find the $20 individual plan for the year is worth it but that's because I do a lot of online play particularly with Splatoon 2 and Smash. As far as the NES games that they are offering it's ok but could be better. One game I wish that was on there would be Super Mario Bros 2 since the first and third are in there.

Hey so i have a nintendo switch 3 month subscription card. I put the code in then it showed me that i have to choose between a credit card, paypal or available funds for automatic renewal. But i only have funds but i have 60 dollars in them and im afraid its gonna charge something from my funds even tho i already paid for a 3 month subscription card. Help please! You can take out Auto Renewal from settings. I recently did it so it does not charge me for Pokemon Home

You can play single player games or games that have single player sections. Example you can play Super Mario Maker 2 story mode with no membership BUT need membership to play other people's courses online. Also, you can not play NES or SNES games like supper Mario Bros.

If your friend wasn't able to resolve it see if they have gold coins. Use the gold coins if they have enough as the rest. Sadly, I forgot to think about tax which was my bad. For example, if I get a $20 card & game costs $19.99 + tax then it would be over slightly $20. Again I sincerely apologize
