    Just a note. Regarding the Constellations the calibre you want to look for is the 564. The 564 is the chronometer certified movement and thus will be in all of the constellations. Not the 565.

    Haha, I was just given the same as the day/date constellation you showed towards the end, but gold capped, it was given to my grandfather in Egypt in the late 60s, passed to my father, now to me. I love it. I understand your view on the day, I like the day feature. I’m biased though👽. However, the omega is at the bottom, and constellation is at the top. No star. Has the observatory on back.

    I have an Omega Constellation Chronometer that I bought new in 1958 with the original box and my copy of the "Certificate of High Precision". I would like to research using the serial number but don't know the link for that. I am wearing the watch right now. At the Brussels Worlds Fair in 1958, I compared my time on it with a Russian exhibit atomic clock. They were 3 minutes off. My watch agreed with the Swiss atomic clock shortly before that.

    I find my 1970 c shape constellation (564 caliber auto) the most comfortable watch to wear due to its modest proportions, and it being as light as a feather. I think many modern watches look a joke with their ‘alarm clock on a strap’ size, something Micky Mouse would wear. Vintage omega, particularly the post 1964 C shape, are so understated in appearance yet house one of the most beautiful, tough, and efficient Swiss movements ever produced.

  • @CasebackWatches

    @CasebackWatches

    I don't know if there were only for Japan, but i find the power reserve very low for an omega movement of this period. 42hours. And most vintage watches loose some hours over the years, so maybe the pieces today run only around 35 hours or so (without fresh service of course).

    Hi Tim, I've always understood that Genta redesigned the Constellation starting with the doglegged lugs and the Onyx inlayed indices on the dial. So the floral indices should be pre-Genta. Am I wrong (very probable) or just a knowitall (highly probable)? I think the onyx indices make the Constellation a more contemporal design, less dated. Lovely combination of movement and design, as is Genta's earlier Universal Geneve Polerouter with the microrotor. They make a nice two-watch collection; affordable, early Genta and iconic movement. By the way, the later Constellations always made me think of the Japanese design-language created by Tanaka for Seiko, maybe that's your connection with the seiko 5. Keep it up!

    The Omega De Ville Tressor is an example of a fine watch. For a connoisseur, A CENTRE THREE HANDS manual winding mechanism is the best of watches, with long minute hand, and an even longer second hand. Usually in Patek or Lange, we only see two hands or sub second hand manual winding watches. They reserved the CTH for their finest pieces. All good watch makers must have this caliber in their stable to be considered good. This kind of watch is very rare in the Swiss industry. Try find one in a Rolex and see what you get? But, strange, the Japanese made this kind of watches long ago, and, it seems like only Gerald Donovan who is aware of it. They even do it in 36000 bph. Very high class, but, you pay less than this Constellation.
