How to Burp trapped air from BMW Cooling System/Water Pump test

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Any time work is done on the cooling system it needs to be Burped/Bled/purged. Air pockets need to be removed . Air pockets will cause expansion tank, water pump , hoses, radiator thermostat, heater core, and eventually engine to be all at risk if purging is not done properly. (Bmws with auxiliary waterpump only)

    You saved my life. I was adding coolant and wanted to bleed the coolant and cracked the bleed screw. It made a mess. I found a bronze replacement from my e46 that fit on my e92. Coolant wasn’t reaching the lower hose radiator as it should after. This helped me a lot and solved my prob. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

    Bimma Joe - thanks for the posted Vids - Very informative. I have a 2004 BMW 325i E46 w/M52 engine package. This does have the belt driven main water pump - on the drivers side inner side of engine compartment - and there is an electric motor mounted with two hoses coming from the heater core affixed to the electric pump does run in key switch position one, heat on high, fan on low. This pump doesn't seen to force the water forward to the reservoir, radiator, thermostat or its housing. I do jack the front of the car up about 18 inches (of course setting it on jack stands). With the Key on in position 1, heat on high, fan on low, it still takes 20>40 minutes to thoroughly bleed the entire cooling/ heating system. Have found that a quick engine start with a mild engine rev (~3,000 rpm) and squeezing the two large upper hoses ( of course with the engine off) - is the most effective and a certain way to eliminate air bubbles throughout the cooling system. I'm not certain the electric pump in the cooling system is working @ 100 percent. These pumps are expensive: $140>$250 range for a new one Keep up the good work!!! Petey VW

    Great video and thanks for your time it took to produce it. My 2010 e70 3.0 suddenly showed "Low Coolant" warning signal. Check the reservoir only to notice no visible coolant at all. Added Coolant and everything seemed fine. Drove it for for close to an hour with no issues. Parked in the driveway. Came back to it about 10 hours later only to find a small puddle on the passenger side. Low Coolant warning displayed again. Pulled the splash guard and looked like coolant drips were coming from the thermostat. In your opinion, could this be from not bleeding or failing Pump and/or thermostat?

  • @BimmaJoc

    @BimmaJoc

    Well it could be that but, from what ive experienced earlier this year (and you can check my newer videos on this). My radiator cracked and i had to use a pressure tester to figure that out....what I realized was it cracked due to worn out shocks and struts....and that may be your case also since the housing of the thermostat is made of plastic the beating of poor struts suspensions can have a major impact in cooling parts and other various components thru out the whole vehicle....so if you have not had your struts and shocks replaced the do so, or more issues will arise...TRUST ME!!! My valvecover started leaking badly because of that reason also....the videos ive done ✅ are all on my channel....by the way ...i didnt film doing the struts because that job was tough and mind you the parts can get costly and when i checked the shocks they were so bad I probably would have more issues if i let it continue....good luck bud!!!

    Hello. I got a question So this morning when I turned on my car there was no power at all none of the lights were on so I assume "dead" battery but when I went to check the battery I moved it around and had power again (seems the negative cable was a bit loose) anyways I drove the car for about 15 mins and I started getting the Overheating light display which surprised me because I have had everything that deals with cooling replaced so does the water pump need to be "reactivate" of some sort since I assume the car had no power overnight and reset some things?

    Perhaps the procedure is engaging something more than just this electrical pump. I assume BMW did not come up with this handy feature without minding the thermostat. Either I'm wrong and the car DOES have electrical thermostat OR there is something else like a solenoid working to open a mechanical thermostat while running the pump???

    Do all the newer BMWs have an electric water pump? My father is having issues with sometimes having a cold lower radiator hose which causes the engine to run a bit louder and a hot smell in the engine bay. It's one of the i4 twin turbo diesel engines on an F11, not sure if it's 2.0 or 2.5 I told him about doing this and he said that his apparently doesn't have the electric pump but maybe he is wrong. I found some manual which said to idle the engine with the coolant cap off and rev the engine every once in a while and do that for like 10 minutes, but that had no effect although it did cause similar spray from the little hole as in this video

  • @BimmaJoc

    @BimmaJoc

    4 жыл бұрын

    The spray is when you put the heat on ...the reving of the engine is to get the temperatures up to normal operation so that the air pockets are removed which is bleeding the system....so that works....by the way...once the heat is blowing hot air from the vents the process is done and no need to go further....reving the engine too long can cause the coolant to escape the tank onto the whole engine bay and cause a fire so be careful...hot air from the vents system is already good to go.....but no not all have an electric pump to be able to do the electric bleeding...and doint it how you just said works fine

    2:50 why is it making that noise? I’m trying to diagnose my F10 535i as to why it randomly overheated few days ago. When I do the bleed test it does the exact same thing full pressure..... slowing down..... Stop then makes that rattling sound and then full pressure again. When the engine is started and nice and hot the flow of coolant in the overflow tank is consistent flow without stops and when the heater is off the flow slows down.

    You can get by with out the battery charger but theres a couple things wrong with that...1 when the water pump runs its going to drain power from battery, so charging helps battery not to die....2 there need to be over 12 volts for water pump to start running on its own...if not it will shut off on its own ...so the point of the charger is to Manipulate the pump into thing thinking the vehicle is running and under power
