How to burn a candle the RIGHT WAY

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi everyone .. I learned this info around a year ago .. but following a conversation at work this I realised I wasn't the only one who didn't know this before ! So I thought I would bring it to you all especially in the run up to Valentines Day as candles are often a staple gift xx

If u have a tunnelled candle that u love but can’t b recovered , re melt the wax by using the double boiler method the pour it back into your jar . There are loads of videos on how to make wicks using regular household items! Xxxx

By the look of your tunnelling candles, it is already too late to save them the foiling way as your wicks are just too short. What I would suggest however is to buy a couple of wicks online, they're really cheap the pre-waxed wicks are like $4 for 100. Buy those, boil or cook the candle in its jar if the glass is safe to heat. Have the candle melt fully, remove the old wick, place the new one in. let it cool, then you can trim the wick to where you want it and try again, you will be saving the outer layers of wax from the tunnelling that is happening and you can repeat this as often as you like when the wick has run out until there is no more wax left to burn.

A lot of people don't know how to burn candles correctly unfortunately. Most come with a guide on how to burn correctly but, let's be honest, it's a candle, who thinks about reading a bit of paper on how to burn it? Definitely need to leave it to go right to the edge as in the video - usually three to four hours. As for the candles that only have scent in the top of the candle, this is also sadly true, it's appalling that people make candles like this, and there's also a lot of other sneaky things some do - including make a small scented candle, popping it into a glass and then filling around with unscented wax. Still work as a scented candle but not as well as it should do. Cheap candles though are the same as any other cheap product and you really do pay for what you get.

You can save even more wax from your favorite candle when you can’t light it anymore by putting hot water from your kettle into the candle. The wax will rise to the top making a disc and you can just pop it out once it cools. You’ll also be able to reuse your pretty jars. I wipe my jars out before putting the hot water in them to make clean up easier.

The wick is too short. It’s too late just pour hot water in there and let the melted wax float to the top and once it’s cooled and has set take the block of wax out and use a candle wax warmer! That way you save the wax and can still use it and can repurpose the jar as well

I didn't know about the initial burn time for a candle and have had a few that have developed tunnels😱. I agree that cheap candles are often not the best although it's not always the case. Tesco's own brand £1.00 and £1.50 candles are not bad I find. I bought all the stuff to make my own candles awhile ago but haven't gotten around to it yet. I think it's possible to melt left over candle wax too, might be a way of using up the candles with tunnels.

First, I apologize. I did not go through and read every comment before replying, therefore I am not sure if this has already been mentioned. I use candle toppers and they will make it burn evenly. Just google it and gazillions of different ones will pop up on your screen. They come in all kinds of pretty designs. I also keep an empty candle jar on a candle warmer and if my wax drowns my wick, I pour the excess wax into the jar that is on the warmer. On the flip side, I also have wicks that seem to burn forever or have a large flame so I slowly add a little of the melted wax to it.

OK I have always burned a candle the right way. There are instructions right on it. But my question is, if u burn it the right way the first time and then blow it out and let it sit overnight or at least till it cools all the way down, what about lighting it the second time. Do you still have to let it burn from side to side or can you let it burn about 20 minutes or so, make a little tunnel then blow it out and then the 3rd time will it keep it's memory and burn all way from side to side?

  • @gsd715
    @gsd7153 жыл бұрын

TRICK TO FIX TUNNELING- use aluminum foil (2-3 layers depending on if you got the regular kind of the nonstick which is already thicker and bring it up several inches higher than the top of the candle container and dome it over the candle while the candle burns (if it's a single wick I dome it so the opening is maybe the size of a nail polish bottle), this helps contain the heat and will do one of two things which is either melt the uneven wax giving you a flat top again or it'll soften the uneven part enough that you can use a butter knife or a spoon to carve that piece out (save it to use in a wax warmer) and let the candle flatten back out. If I see that the candle has flattened out then I'll leave the foil be to cool off on it's own along with the candle however if I have to remove the wax chunk I use an oven mitt to remove the foil because it will be hot. I have used this trick on 1 wick candles up to 4 wick candles because sometimes my husband loves to turn on ceiling fans which is just enough to mess up my candles without me realizing it. The photos I've seen online of people doing this are very conservative with the height of the foil and I found that just isn't as effective or takes longer so I found a thicker foil layer and having it a little higher up really does hold in the most heat. I haven't had a single candle this hasn't worked on in the 15 years I've been doing this trick. I am shocked to learn that there's candles made with fragrance only at the top, I was wondering about that for awhile now so to find out that's true is so disappointing. Anyways, hope this trick helps.

You could try twisting together 5 or more linen threads for a wick, then putting your thumb on wax and pull the threads between your finger and the wax to make the threads stick together. Then put a lollypop stick (popsicle stick) across the top of the candle jar and tie one end of the thread to it and let the rest dangle to the bottom of the candle. Then find the "power level" button on a microwave and turn it down to the lowest setting and microwave the wax until the top is perfectly flat. I haven't tried this, but I will if someone replies and asks me to.

To fix the tunneling put the jar in the oven at about 150-170 degrees for a few mins. Keep an eye on it!!! After about 5-10 mins once all the wax is melted take out the wick with a tweezer and put in another wick trim the wick to 1/4 inch let it cool and a then re light you can find cotton wicks on Amazon for less than $8

Hey thanks for that..BUT... I had a big 3 Wick candle given to me at Christmas ..just lit it and like you said let it burn for around 5 hours..the damned thing it tunnelling already but I assume it’s because it’s so wide at the top the heat is not reaching it so I tried the tin foil today...mmm not really melting evenly but it’s drowning the wicks so.... what can you suggest...

Heyyyyyyy lovely ohhh so sorry .. yeh when I said 5 hours or until the wax melts to the edge I guess it really does depend on the size of the candle xxx if it is drowning the wicks I woul perhaps pour the wax out and make another foil chimney until it is level x or ... scoop out some wax and put it in a wax burner .. so frustrating x

Here's a bit of a tip, you can buy a cheap cotton shirt, and cut it into wicks. Just make sure to soak the wick in wax from the candle you intend to use it with before you light the wick. Also make sure to tightly twist it. Cotton yarn or twine works too.

Salvage tunnelled candles by turning them into wax melts- melt the wax and pour into any silicon mould, then just pop in them in a wax burner. Easier than re-melting them and putting another wick in (odly enough, finding the right wick is not easy...I've been testing this for a couple of months now.)

just insert a wooden toothpick same as the depth of tunnel right beside your existing wick. burn your existing wick like the way you do. make chimney of foil paper. toothpick will now become an extension of your wick in no time. and tunnel would be gone in few minutes.

Heyyyy Farah .. if you are burning it for the first time .. just burn it until the whole surface has melted.
