Thank you... always good to re-enforce learning and inspire doing. Nice video. On year I made 160 drawers out of the "junkiest" wood I had; 1) to get rid of the wood (lots of presswood) and 2) to learn how to do it. I put them "everywhere" just to practice. Ten years later, they're still working well. I'm in a mode where I'm gonna make some "better ones" now and your video will help. Thanks again.
There is something about watching builds being done with the right tools and in a shop that is set up correctly. It makes an easy job just that...easy. Nice work

A circular saw and a straight edge will do all these cuts. Get some harbor freight clamps and you're in business for less than $400.
Thanks Tyler. Been looking around a bit for joinery options on some 1/2" ply drawers for a bathroom vanity. Gonna give this a try. The sacrificial wood addition to the fence for the dado was an eye opening "why didn't I think of that!"
Thanks a bunch, I tried this method out, it works great.I wish I could build drawer boxes half as fast as you do, but for me it is a hobby so taking my time can be fun. I have built 24 different drawers now for my kitchen improvements and I have tried several different methods. With the use of wood glue, any method will produce a drawer that is stronger than it needs to be be. The reason I like this method over the floating bottom in dado grooves is because this style pulls the side panels in perfectly when all your cuts are square. Even birch plywood can be warped slightly so the floating bottom panel does not pull it perfectly straight and your side mounted drawer slides work so much better when everything is square , straight, and true. I just love how these drawers come together when you tap in a perfect size for size panel into the bottom rabbits. Thanks again .
I love your concept of adjusting the dado width using the sacrificial fence...usually i spend waaay too much time assembling testing disassembling retesting the dado setup!!!
Thank you for this video! Just built a whole set of drawer boxes for built in cabinets in our home. I followed this method and they worked like a charm!
Thank you for an awesome video! I love this joint because of its strength.
Wow That was timely. I needed to make an under vanity drawer this weekend. Thanks!
Thank you Tyler!! Great tutorial, worked out great for some dresser drawers I just made. Having that drawer bottom fit perfectly was very satisfying and using it to perfectly square everything up make it easy.
This has been very helpful in making drawers. It's very clear and has just enough info without unnecessary dialogue. Thanks!
After re doing the custom sized oversized cabinet doors and building new drawers in old warped cabinets with finished plywood and ball bearing drawer slides using a bunch of clamps, idriver, hand pull saw, skilsaw and my best balancing techniques, I am watching the "how it's made " human machine here using these tools that take every headache out of the process and wow. I mean the dados the jig the squared even pressure cuts.. I really appreciate this specific info on proper tools for the job. The cost of not using the tools is much higher in terms of adjustments, difficulty on install, tension on parts and time cleaning up. Now all I have to do is sell a vehicle or something and I can step my game up! Thanks for the graphic visualizations mid video too.. good production. Cheers!
Wow, this is WAY easier than what I was just trying to do! SO glad I watched this!!!
Nicely done Tyler & that indeed looks like a very easy way to build a set of draws. Thanks.....
Finally! Someone that uses dados again. No squares,no clamps,no ugly pocket holes. Time spent setting up the dado set is easily returned on assembly. Never had a drawer come apart, because of modern glues and hardware, and I’ve never had complaints that it doesn’t look as nice as a dovetail or box joint because they’re hidden. Lets start the revolution, viva la dado! Cheers.
I like this construction method, it is virtually the same one I use. The only thing I do different is that I use SS finish screws on the side of the drawers instead of the pins that you use. If the drawers are going to fail, it is typically at the front edge joints. The 1" SS finish screws I use pull the joints tight and then go 13/16" into the front piece and make it virtually impossible for that joint to fail, even in a heavily loaded drawer.

G'day Christopher I will go with your screw method. Screws take a little longer but if a job is worth doing it is worth doing once. P.S. I think that you have a typo and you meant to say, '...make it virtually impossible for that joint to fail' CU
Great upload, thank you for posting !
I used your method after weeks of looking around and it worked great. I have 30 of them. I just finished putting them in with the slides. Solid maple fronts seem way too expensive, I think I'm going to have to go with maple 3/4 plywood.
Thanks. Love the way you show the steps.
Very helpful, thank you, Tyler!
Great way to make drawers. Thanks for the super video.
Great job bro , and so inspiring!
Nice shop. For light duty items this will work but I prefer the quarter drawer system. It's also simple and much stronger. First time on your channel, I'll check your other videos

Thanks for the video, Tyler !
1/2” bottoms? i built a kitchen roll cart and the two drawers had sheet aluminum fronts and backs to maximize space because it was only 14” deep or so, and it looks good as well plus assembly was pretty easy with screws which is also very strong. just something you might like to consider. cheers!

Excellent Video!! Thanks!
Love, love, love!!
Nice presentation!! I'm 73 yrs old and my Dad taught me that way of building 'boxes' when I was 8 yrs old. The ball drawer slides came much later, in the late '80s for me, and I just don't understand how I ever got along without them! I just completed a machine tool stand with about a dozen small tool drawers, about 8w x 22d x 2 to 4d and three large drawers, and the frame or carcass. I used that joint technique, always do if possible, for everything. And pins while the glue dried! I even have that same GlueBot!! I love the shop cabinets you have build and the way you incorporated the chop saw space. Beautiful!
Fantastic to is is exactly what I needed. Thank you for the video.
Great video. I am always confused how to take measurements of new drawer for ready build cabinet box. Could you please explain it in simple way? Once again great job!

Thanks for the video! I’ll be making good use of it to make a workshop similar to yours in my garage. Any chance you could tell me the blue side clamp you used when installing the drawer sliders?
Nice, I need that dado set. I liked the trick for cutting the 3/16 rabbit using the sacrificial piece.

That is really the only way to do it without damaging the fence.
I run a high end custom cabinet shop. We built our drawers very similarly. We use prefinished Russian Birch, undermount slides, and a 1/4" bottom. We load up a sheet of Russian Birch into the CNC router and it will cut out our parts. With rabbet joints for the sides and a 1/4" dado for the bottom, and then we use 23g pins and glue on the sides just like you did. We have never once had a drawer box failure, and I've been building cabinets for 10 years now.

Nice vid! Always good to master drawer boxes. I wish you would have talked about how to calculate and measure the spacing between several drawers in a cabinet. Like how far apart vertically does each box go for a specific cabinet. I find that the most difficult part. Including a 1/8 inch gap between the drawer fronts.

Did you ever get your answer on the height of the boxes? It’s really not that hard. You build your box A quarter of an inch in height less than the opening. Don’t add the face just yet! If, after the extensions are screwed on the sides (or bottom) you try to slide the box in and it doesn’t fit at the top, measure how much you need to remove and ( after removing the drawer extensions)just trim off what you need at the table saw by laying it on it’s side with the bottom of the Drawer against the fence and trim what you need off the top. Rotate the box to get all four sides. Again, bottom against the fence. Put the extensions back on and it should fit. I’d rather be a little too tall than too short to start with. You can also leave the back taller than the opening so when it slides forward it won’t allow the drawer to be pulled all the way out. the back will act as a stop to keep it from pulling out. I do that with kids dressers so that the kids can’t pull the drawers out and land on them. The extensions should stop that as well, but I like a little more insurance. I like to use this method when I’m making a box with a lid. You build the whole box, top bottom sides. Then depending on how much lid you want Measure up from the bottom and set Your tablesaw the same way. Bottom against the fence and rotate the box until all four sides are cut. Instant box with lid!

Awesome video! I’m needing drawers for my shop for tools. Although most of the tools are not going to be real heave some will be. Will the drawer stand the test of time with heavy tools?? Thanks Andy
Great use of power tools in your perfectly set up shop!"
Where did you get your Table Saw push block, I have been looking and I have nlt been able to find a red one anywhere
That looks awesome! Any advice in case the available equipment at home is rudimentary?
Looks good. The only difference I do is a different dado for the bottom of the drawer. I have seen so many drawers start to separate on the bottom first. I tend to dado a groove leaving about 1/4" of material of all 4 sides of the drawer supporting the bottom without nails. It also allows for the use of thinner wood bottoms that are finished plywood with no seems showing at all on the bottom. A lot of wood working people also like this technique to allow for expansion and contraction without loosing structural strength. Anyway, your way allows all the same material and is probably good for the common use case.
Nicely done ☑️
Thank you for the easy video in more manufacturers would do it that way the drawers one fall apart
Quality lookin drawers 👌
Great video!
Great job and thanks for doing the video. J.
Power feeder link, please! May see about getting one for work. Some of the frames I dado are pretty long and or awkward. Plus if they have a bow in them, it makes the dado height inconsistent at times, as hardwoods are hard to force down in the middle of a dado pass.
Great directions.
💯💯👍 great Tyler
Just noticed your splitter. I think I have the same one in a drawer somewhere, unopened. Do you like them? From Lee valley?

Hi Tyler, Thanks for the video. I don't have any of those tools or a place to build. Could you build some custom drawers and ship them to me? I am sure I can do the gluing, nailing, and assemble the rails. I would be happy to purchase these and pay you. Thanks.
How much weight do you anticipate the drawer can handle. Based on your video, I'm seeing that the bottom is held by glue and pin nails, so I'm curious how this would last over the long term.
It's a very good video. I have a small table saw and a miter saw. But I don't think I can do the dado cuts. With unfinished plywood, couldn't I glue and nail without the dado cuts, and then paint or varnish the box? I would ask home depot to cut the 4x8 sheet into 3 pieces because I couldn't do it on my small table saw. Any quick response advice would be appreciated. I really hate when the person who does the video won't reply to questions. 😕
15 drawers in 2 hours???? It would take me longer than that just to figure out the cut list! Thanks for the vid.

Question for you is... what brand of pin nail supplies do you use?
