With the balsa wood trick, I bought the wood furniture repair markers and just paint the balsa wood with them. It literally saves me hours because making those beams are the hardest part of all this. Doing away with it and just cutting some balsa wood for the beams turned making 1 house from a 3-4 hour ordeal of waiting for glue to dry on and off, into a 1-2 hour quicky.

Looks much better than I was expecting. I think it really comes down to two things; the original building and how much time/work you are willing to put into making it better.

Nice work. I would recommend, as with the ramp, that you make all your cuts before glue up. Also, you may want to put in some gussets to help shore up the weak points on the corners.

This is great! I've gotten into papercraft this past year. I've seen foamcore mentioned before but the wood sticks here is especially clever, and looks fantastic. Think I'll give that a go next time I make one with rails or boards... I made a couple vardos during Into the Mist- Neverwinter has a model for Madam Eva's vardo which is pretty easy to start with, but some Strahd fans have made some next level ones. Current project is the "Ultimate GM Screen" from Fat Dragon Games for my sister's birthday :)

Invest in a Foamwerks angle cutter. I did, and it makes things faster and neater. (Make sure you get extra blades.)

I watched the part where you ‘scored’ the lines. I think you would get a better result if you used a bone folder or ball head scoring tool. It doesn’t weaken the paper nearly so much and you shouldn’t get the layer separation that resulted in tearing at the folds later. I love the build and will be looking for those models!

Another option for foamboard skeletons for paper buildings is to measure and build the frame before cladding it.

just getting into this really curious how you do you recesses in the foam core do you just glue the paper leaving glue off the edge and cut the foam off?

Wondering if after glueing to the foam if you went and cut each piece out and glued together like that it would be right angles glued together. Then you wouldn't have to score through and bend the only place it seems you'd need to make 2 45 deg would be at those top of the incline to the rectangular front section. Just a thought I'd have to get some of those models and try it out.

You can put magnets to make the levels stick together.

maybe i missed what i kind of paper do you print it out on, do you glue it to card stock after. I was curious on those little details

looks just as good as foam/MDF terrain but is it cheaper???

What kind of foam core do you use for these builds? The Dollar Tree stuff has backing that peals off easily as opposed to the craft store foam core that doesn't.

Jason R Definitely want to use stuff that doesn’t peel easily. The stuff I use is found here in Canada at Dollarma and takes some serious elbow grease to peel apart.
