    currently taking a beginning drawing class and really struggling with line confidence. I'm not used to careful lines, or representative drawing. I'm used to a much different arm and hand movement with expressive and very loose painting, so trying to be more "controlled" is just not intuitive for me. Going to try these practices and see if it helps. Thanks for posting!

    I forget where I learned this, but for warm ups I start by drawing circles clockwise and counter-clockwise, 2 rotations each time, and not trying to get a perfect circle but have both loops overlap then I draw a star/snowflake with 4 lines- so like a "+" on top of an "x", making all lines intersect at the same point. and which direction I draw the lines in is random and lastly I just make grids. just some large 5x5 hashes

    These are really just drills 😳 I do these all the time, every day and yes drills definitely help. I would love to see some future insight in your thoughts on what a quality line IS, and the mental cues you use in order to create a quality line. I do believe there is a lot of importance in the mindset, as well as slowing down. Creating less lines over all, instead of just throwing a bunch of lines down willy-nilly, take a moment to create less lines and focus on quality. Pressure is another huge factor… we must learn to draw lines with heavy pressure, but especially learn how to remove all pressure to the point we can’t hear any noise and barely see any mark. We can also use the edges of the paper as a guide for straight lines, and use the essence of calligraphy to improve our contour lines. Line is a very intense topic and fundamental, I would certainly love to follow you as you explore it ☺️👏

    Hey could you make a video about drawing without sketch? whether beginners could try or not? I once saw an artist say that it's a matter of habit, so I was left with this question, if you make a video about it I'll be grateful 😀

  • @thedrDraw

    @thedrDraw

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Jack, to be honest I don't advise to make a drawing without a sketch as a beginner. That's the same as sitting behind a piano without knowing what the keys are doing. It's gonna end up being crap. Give yourself some freedom to sketch. If you do that enough and make it a habit, you'll slowly start to visualise your sketch before you put it on paper. But that will take at least 5 years.
