Brilliant! For a casual beginner-level player, that's exactly what I needed. Appreciate you and your videos so much, Billy. • @waynefilkins8394

This video is exactly what I was looking for. I learned some basics earlier like 90's and just building a box with window, and it helped slightly in a game (took 1st mostly because I was able to distract people and keep them busy longer with building while my beast teammate killed the rest lol) but what really got me wanting to learn this stuff is I watched my nephew he's like 21 (I think) and been playing since the beginning, and he got into a couple build wars and just completely embarrassed his opponents. The way he was thinking, and they were thinking even, was on a whole different level. They all knew exactly what they were doing and I was just trying to keep up with what was even happening...while spectating even lol. He was always tracking them, and I kept losing track, and he was watching their weapon, baiting the rocket launcher like moving a wall, then putting back up, then this long like waiting period where neither of them could do anything, and he still won it somehow tho cuz he had them trapped lol. There was just so much going on and I was just in awe...never was too crazy about fortnite but that was really interesting to watch.

IMHO, it's the most complex game I've ever seen. Pisses me off to see how my 14-year-old son is taking out squads alone by just outsmarting them, while I die every time someone pushes me. And, I'm spending hours watching videos and practising in creative while he just plays when I can join him. It's like a game of chess where you have to decide and execute within a fraction of a second, and one wrong decision can cost you a game. I admire people like Billy who are good at it but I've been close to giving up BR so many times. In Zero Builds I feel fairly competent but BR is just a completely different experience. Crazy complex stuff and everyone seems so sweaty these days...

@@UldisBizused to play this game a ton and got very good (can still win any pub match I get into and could easily get high kill wins in highest level of ranked). The main issue with people trying to get better is simply being able to multi task. Getting better at your movement and allowing muscle memory to do needed things in fights or just creative is key to becoming a better player. You should never be thinking about how you wanna take their box or do different moves, it should be automatic and you should be able to take in context clues in order to always make a good play. The best way to get better is to simply identify what you’re bad at and practice that as much as you can. For example if you are horrible at building, don’t watch best retake tutorials and advanced building mechanics, start slow. Your aim should be to be competent in each aspect of the game until you start trying to be very skillful. If you already think a lot and have knowledge of the game, you will be much better than most players once your mechanics catch up. It’s a game of multitasking and the best players or the ones who aren’t thinking about the big things, they think about the things that will always make them win.

Amount of skill it takes to master building is insane. It takes hours and hours of practice it seems. I feel like most of these types of videos are for intermediates as opposed to beginners because they explain the strategies but during actual fights all of these things have to happen very quickly and you kind of have to learn them slowly before speeding up. Also all the key presses you have to make when going from building different structures to harvesting tool to switching weapon to editing. It takes immense muscle memory to do those things quickly.

This really does depend. If you have good movement, good aim, and good situational awareness, you CAN often get that first tags on a player, and then box up to finish. That said, if you run up against someone equally as experienced, or better, then the build first can give you room to work with. OR, if you get caught out in the middle of open ground or a field, and there's no natural cover, build first, shoot second is a good habit to make. How many times have you gotten the first tag on a user, only to end up losing the encounter. It's situational and it depends. But to help build the muscle memory, I've been trying to FORCE myself to build first. It forces me to work on my build mechanics in real fights. The problem is that the shoot first encounters I win are probably against easier players. Well, you should be using those easier players to practice your build mechanics. Trying to practice build mechanics against an experience player is really hard as they can often use movement and other tactics to pressure you into making mistakes. Anyway, just my thoughts on it. It can be useful to force yourself to build first in some game sessions, just to practice it live.
