How to build Floating Shelves with Hidden LED Lighting

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I show how to build floating shelves with hidden LED lighting. I built them with a hollow frame to connect the low voltage wires. The wires run inside the wall, through the cabinets into the basement to a small transformer that is controlled by a smart plug.

What did you use for the power supply, and where did you mount it? Also, did you use in wall low voltage wire or something else? Thanks!

No, they’re going to store dishes on them, but I told them to put anything really heavy in the back corner because it has the extra wall support too. They won’t break, but excessive weight might make them sag.

I am about to start the build process on my next house. I was planning to add opening shelving in our breakfast nook. I loved how you added the led lights in. Please excuse my lack of knowledge. If I want to prewire for the led lights, what do I tell the builder?

  • @handydadtv

Tell him exactly where you want to put the shelves and get his opinion on the location of the power supply. He may add an outlet inside a cabinet for you and control it by a switch above the counter.

The top is 3/4” thick and the bottom is 1/4” thick. The internal wood is 1-1/2” square. So that’s 2-1/2” total, which means the sides and front are 1x3 boards.

Hi, I thought I had seen all your videos, but it looked as if you were putting some sort of wallpaper on. I am not averse to wallpaper in a kitchen but, next to a work surface that can get wet seems a bad idea to me and I don't remember that video. If it was wallpaper can you put the link in so we can re-visit that video? Thanks

I did my whole house to be voice controlled like that. You can either use an voice controlled Alexa device (like an eco dot) paired with a smart switch (wifi is the easiest as the echo dot uses wifi) that will turn the lights on and off. You can also get voice controlled switches
