How to Build Fake Rock Pond With a Liner.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here's an update on our faux rock ponds project we're building at Lion's, Tiger's and Bear's in Alpine, CA. We're finishing the texture coats on the individual stones and boulders around the concrete ponds we built over or on top of rubber liners. Anyway, if you'd like to find out about more faux rock how-to's, including FREE pdf downloads and videos, try www.davehenderson.podia.com. Dave Henderson you are my hero, seriously. I have been watching your videos for over a year, when I started researching how to build my big fake rock bench and raised garden bed. I have a waterfall feature planned for the future and the other day decided to totally revamp my plan for it and put it in an entirely different location. I am so excited about the project and have more sketching and planning, but seeing the videos for this project pop up on my youtube tonight.... I am sitting here watching this, ready to do a backflip. I am planning the waterfall to have a basin exactly like this, where I can wade my feet in it. I paused the video to write this when I got to the part about the chlorinator. I want chlorinated water so that it is clean and OK for wading in, standing under, etc. I wasn't really sure how this would be an option until seeing this. This is a big project with a lot of planning for starting next year. If I was independently wealthy I'd ask to fly to San Diego and apprentice with you guys. I would love to do this stuff for a living! Your videos are so incredibly inspiring and helpful to me as I learn how to do this. So cool.

Hey Mr. Dave, always make everything look, fantastic sir, I was wondering what kind of seal you use to not lose the color on the rocks? I'm using some acid stains to paint my rocks which is getting where I want but having a hard time finding a clear sealer that is not going to be toxic for pond. Already read your PDF about Waterproofing Strategies from the Experts but not found something specific for ponds.

Hi Richard, Thanks for the kind comments. Appreciate it. To your question, I've used Scofield stains and sealers in the past on my faux rock. Though I mostly use exterior latex paint now since I'm able to lighten up my work which isn't really possible with pure acid stains. But I've also made many biological fish ponds and never worried about sealing since any paint won't be subject to the sun to cause fading and will likely be covered with algae pretty quickly. On stains, I never used them in my ponds. Just paint..... Wasn't sure about their toxicity. On ponds the acid can puddle and build up which may possibly leach out in time...with no ill affect maybe, but maybe not... To be safe with your pond I'd fill it, (unless it's too large which in this case just cover the floor with a few inches of water) throw in some acid neutralizer, (baking soda for example) let it stand for a week while (running the filter if full a little each day) then empty it. After that I'd fill it and put some feeder fish to test to see how they do for a month. Hopefully an issues would manifest in that time. But I'm just throwing out some thoughts and ideas. Keep researching till you're comfortable with a strategy. Anyway, thanks again for the kind words. If you've not already been to my store you can check it out. I use colored "Fog Coat" which is a stucco product along with colored powdered release agents from Brickform with stamps. Use earthen tones. This is done during the texture coat applications after which I paint with high quality exterior latex house paints. I think I've got some videos on that on my Channel somewhere. For specific trainings on these steps and processes try davehenderson.podia.com Will find some courses there that explain the process fully. Thanks for the questions Yo! Anyway, I hope you have a great day NO MATTER WHAT! Cheers, Mr. Dave :)

Hello Dave I have a rock waterfall and it looks very faded and would love to make it look richer in color. What items do you recommend where a can do it myself to save money?

Thanks for the questions Ybarra. Painting faux rock is a bit of a challenge. At least to do it effectively. But to start I use high quality exterior latex house paint. Tans, browns, creams, brick, orange and the like colors. Earthen tones. I use color tints to change the colors as needed, (a squirt into one gallon juice container, shake then see if you like the new color). I use simple red top hand pump sprayers. The paint needs to be diluted down so it sprays well. Around 5 parts water to 1 part paint. I also use a funnel paint strainer to keep the clean so it sprays well. Really the key will be practicing. Get some old cardboard, wood sheets or something you can practice spraying your paints on. In time you'll get closer to the color and technique needed to move to your rockwork.. Before you paint I always powerwash the rock surfaces to make sure all loose cement etc. is gone so the paint will stick well. I start with light colors and then move to the darker ones. Here's a video that shows my approach. kzread.info/dash/bejne/apuk2LmGlK-waZs.html Anyway, thanks for watching my videos. @@DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos I finally added colour to my bench a few weeks ago after hemming and hawing for months about what to do, how to do it. I ended up using a an acid stain and achieved the effect we were looking for but my concern with using paint prior to finding that stuff was wondering what keeps it from eventually peeling? Also seems like a lot of room for error without any experience so was intimidated by that.
