How to Build an Automatic Watering Olla System

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I am so excited that Darrell was willing to share his automatic Olla watering system. Here is a link to his blog where he details how to construct this system and gives a detailed parts list.

This video is brain usage on display!! I didn't catch why the ollas were fed water through the bottom rather than the top of the olla bottle. Thanks!!

I totally agree! There is a lot of intelligence and ingenuity in his designs. I think he feeds from the bottom so the top has room for the poles that show how full the ollas are.

This is amazing!! Can’t wait to see it fully grown. His float indicating the level of the water almost looks like red hot poker flowers. 😊 So many fun ways you could decorate them too. I’m curious to know how often that one reservoir container fills up, especially in the heat of the summer when the plants are bigger and I would think take up more water. Where about do these gentlemen live in Utah?

They live in SLC! I did ask them how often the reservoir fills, and they don't know because it automatically fills once the float is low enough to trigger it to fill. I am really excited to head back later in the year and see how it changes!

Ingenious system. Do you have to bleed system to begin with? Thanks for sharing your ideas🙏

I just disconnect it and store the timer inside over the winter. That is all that needs to be done!

I saw your detailed instructions on how to build your automatic ollas It’s seemed a little vague could you draw a diagram of where the connections are one at the bottom it looks like your connected in the middle also and where is your relief that you mentioned what is that?

Thank you for watching! I don't know the answers to those questions, but here's the link Dale gave where he has the instructions on how to build his system. Hopefully this helps! www.ddixonslc.com/p/auto-fill-ollas.html

You do realize that if you have to buy truckloads of chinese plastic junk, that beats the WHOLE point of buying oyas.

What Chinese plastics are you talking about? The pipes are old sprinkler pipes, the irrigation line is minimal, and the Ollas are made from terracotta pots.
