    Area is easier to calculate if you leave Pi out of it, since the drill holes are also circular. Take diameter of drill bit (say 5mm) and diameter of intake (say 50mm). Then number of holes is given by 50*50/(5*5) * percentage/100 = percentage. For a 10mm drill bit it would be 50*50/(10*10) * percentage/100 = 0.25*percentage.

    These older colinfurze videos give me some degree of pleasure, but I'd almost kill for Colin to provide one or two videos taking on things at an 'Ave' or 'This Old Tony', or even 'BigClive' level. Based on their numbers of subscribers, many people are interested in that sort of video. Comparing the numbers of subscribers, they are few-and-far-between. However, if Colin had any interest in helping people like himself (the at-home makers/machinists), rather than those who paid out the big bucks for the clicks, it'd be so fucking awesome of him. Colin has some of the coolest shit ever! I just want to know more! Especially in more recent videos---he's completely given up any bit of a show-and-tell mentality with those. It's purely "show." (Perhaps have a Patreon account, in which contributors see nothing except the details of construction. Details and editing not necessary. Just video the process! I guarantee he'd get many thousands of subscribers, each putting $5+ in his pocket each month!) @colinfurze If you're listening, we want this. It's very nearly free money! Please let us see the cool shit that goes into these things. (Yes, this is 5 years old. I know this. If no response, I'll send it more privately.) Anyway, keep it up. And do more close-ups!

    Love this project,i,m gathering all the bits to build one,do you think it would matter if the outside of the combustion chamber were about 170mm bigger than the inside ?

  • @IAA015
    @IAA0158 жыл бұрын

    Just a quick question to anyone who's having experience with these homemade turbojets - How important is it to have the combustion chamber completely air sealed? I guess the more it is, the easier it will be for it to start and run, but how "whiny" are they in general? I am not a good welder by any means... the welds are not very smooth and it has some air leakage here and there(I will fix this when I can) also what is the recommended fuel pressure for startup? I have some sort of pressure regulator that only will let out 30mbar max. Do I need more pressure than that? Any answer will be greatly appreciated!

  • @willday1558

    @willday1558

    8 жыл бұрын

    +IAA015 It'll probably be harder to start if there's leaks in the combustion chamber, and also might be a fire hazard, so look over all your welds and make sure you can't see any daylight through them. If you do, just weld a solid tack on the pinhole and grind it flush. Most people who run these have no regulator, the propane comes straight from the bottle, so when you plumb up the fuel system, make sure it can withstand the pressure, and any rubber hoses should be far from the engine so they don't melt and spray propane everywhere.

    Love this; however, I am just wondering the amount of thrust this would produce and if it would be big enough to place this into a small car. I have been wanting to do a car rebuild but I am wanting to convert the trunk into the motor compartment with a sound proofing and heat shield. I am wanting to see if I can put something like this into a Toyota Corolla that I would run on a 25 pound to 100 pounds of propane. However, I am needing to figure out if I can place the propane tank and the motor in the same compartment or if I would need to remove the gas tank and place a protective housing around it under the car. I am heading to Costa Rica and I would like to do this build there where the cost of supplies will be a lot cheaper.

I think the ratio provided is great, however, do you mind explaining the physics to that? (why is the diameter of the combustion chamber have to be twice the diameter of the inlet, and why does the length have to be 6x the diameter of the inlet?) These numbers are quite important, and I thank you for posting them. I just like to understand more, but so far, I have no idea where to get these info. thx!

    Would there be a noticeable drop in efficiency if you made the primary holes 20% larger?

    put a shaft on the intake nut and run a disc with magnets and copper coils. Also how about putting the whole thing in a a cone shaped ram jet and use the heat to create more thrust.

    If your turbo is less than 45mm inlet and you the flame tube 3x the diameter, do you then use this new dimension when choosing the length too, or the original turbo diameter? Eg my turbo is 40mm so the flame tube is 120mm but should it be 40mm x 6 long or 120mm x 6 long?

    The calculations for area of the holes does not account for the curvature of the surface that the holes are in, if you flattened the tube the holes would become elliptical and have a slightly larger area than a round hole. It works though so it is close enough.
