How to Build a True Digital Twin with Self-Configuring Models Using the Material Handling Library

Ғылым және технология

This advanced webinar demonstrates how you can create a self-configuring model using the Material Handling Library. 👉 Description and links below...
Learn to create a model where all components are created directly from simple input data. On startup, the model loads all elements (conveyors, transporters, machines…) from the provided data, connects all the elements and lets products be manufactured. This is achieved with little coding, and using standard AnyLogic capabilities such as agent populations and flow-chart blocks.
With such a setup, you can create true digital twins - as your model will always reflect your current data reality, without further manual refinements.

Thank you very much for this helpful video. It gives you the possibility to be much more flexible after some coding to set up the model. I am trying to implement this approach for a complex model, with agents living in other agents (for example a model with different production areas with their own machines and conveyors). How can you deal with networks and levels? I understand the approach for the network in the main. But how with a more complex tree of agents?

Hello Andrea, The approach for agents inside other agents depends on the current implementation. It is necessary to look into your model to accurately answer the question, but the general approach will remain the same as in the video. You can submit your model to AnyLogic's user community platforms, which you can find at the following link: www.anylogic.com/resources/support/

Hi.. thanks for the video. what are the ways to connect AnyLogic with live data coming from a machine or a process directly to our model?

Hello, Thank you for the question. Digital twin technology implies the data exchange between a model and a real system. This can be done by connecting the model objects to external databases - anylogic.help/anylogic/connectivity/creating-a-data-source.html#legacy-creating-a-database - or feeding data to an AnyLogic model internal DB. All the techniques how to read/write and connect your model blocks as well as agents with data from DB are described in this set of articles - anylogic.help/anylogic/connectivity/db-index.html. Also, please find a step-by-step guide on how to operate with external databases in AnyLogic - Importing data from external database - step-by-step guide - www.anylogic.com/blog/importing-data-from-external-database-step-by-step-guide/. As an example of existing digital twins done with the use of AnyLogic, I would list several fresh videos from the AnyLogic Conference that will illustrate AnyLogic capabilities in the specified field: Digital Twin as a Solution for Major Operations and Business Challenges - kzread.info/dash/bejne/lp9qyqaRgaTdebg.html Digital Twin - Agent-based Turbine Operations & Maintenance (ATOM) - kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6VhwaOyfdDNmsY.html Other than that, you may find the following materials useful : White paper: How to create a digital twin - www.anylogic.com/blog/white-paper-how-to-create-a-digital-twin/ AnyLogic Blog: digital twins - www.anylogic.com/blog/?tag=digital%20twin

Thanks for your Webinar and that helps me a lot. I am a beginner for using Anylogic and have one more question about this model, and it would be great if I could get an answer from someone. I don't really understand the collection MachinesToDo, the products runs sequentially(source->M1->M2->M3->sink) or randomly? Or How to make product run sequentially all the time(No need to use AGV) Thanks a lot for the answer

hi , we currently use the Tecnomatix software for our purposes . But I appreciate the detail at which Anylogic is build . In the video , I did not understand the meaning of “self configuring “ ? Can you please explain more ?

Hi! The 'self-configuring' refers to the model taking parameters from a data source (in this case a database table) and configuring itself. So the number of AGV is specified and which machines they serve. In other situations this data could come from a live database that indicates the number of available AGV and which machines need serving. In short, it allows you to reuse models for different scenarios without having to reconfigure them manually.

I am facing a problem in the execution of this model. Everything seems to work fine, including the flowcharts and the conveyors, however my product agents are not visible at all during simulations. Neither in 2D nor 3D. I have set them to the main level as instructed. Can you please advice on what might be the problem.

Hi Anurag, I understand you already have an answer but just in case others find the same problem we'd like to post here as well. Be careful when it comes to adding presentation to agents. Click an agent population and make sure the "show presentation" button is not clickable (otherwise click it).
