    Very efficient! No wasted motions. I never thought about the CFE of brick v concrete, though here we would never not attach floors to walls.

    It's weird isn't it. floating slabs. There is often some cast in steel columns and the stairs tie in but generally the whole conc suspended slab is floating on the bricks! I suppose an earthquake here wouldn't be a good thing!

    Great video, definitely a star in the making. Do you have any videos of stripping that formwork as I was wondering how seeing you had nailed it from the concrete side, or is the ply all sacrificial saving what you can?

    thanks mate, that is a good idea for a video, I will show the stripping techniques we use. We strip all of it and we pull the nails out backwards with knipex "knips" sydneytools.com.au/product/knipex-6801280-280mm-end-cutting-nipper

    Well you've sold me in Portugal we use block and beam which is very effective on old stone houses, but I have a small timber deck to replace that joins my pool to a terrace and I am going to poor a slab now to do the job instead of block and beam.

    Great work. Im a chippy as well but cannot for the life of me wrap my head around a concrete slab for a roof on a house. Obv its different in australia. In ireland its never done only on apartment blocks.

    Hey mate, I can’t quite tell in the video but did you use normal chairs for the reinforcing? I’ve got a project coming up with the underside of the slab becoming the finished ceiling downstairs, having a hard time coming up with a way to properly suspend the reinforcing. Do you have any ideas?

    If you’re doing an off-form ceiling you want full plastic chairs. Don’t use the steel ones as they leave dents in the soffit and you will see the tips of some of them.

    Hi Mal, honestly I wouldn't know. Rates are double what they were when I was doing suspended slabs last. Steel I have no idea of prices anymore. My guess would be $250m2 plus you electrical and plumbing and builder markup.

    Nice video! What would it look like if a suspended floor was supported on both leaves of a cavity wall? Can you describe it?

    yes this can be done but the cavity on external walls prevents moisture entering the home, it also insulates. but when we do this we put down flashing (thin galvanised steel) to cover the cavity.

    Nope all connected. When we do units there will just be a separation between units. Apartments will be one big slab though.

    Great video mate. Helped no end. However a bit of advice, the trick to measuring is useful, but there are idiots out there that will put their fingers on the other side. Never judge people by your own standards, it is surprising how stupid some are.

    I watched a few of your vids. It brings on a strong feeling of nostalgia! I was in novosibirsk when the airliner was shot down over Crimea. I love that place so much. What you are doing is such a cool experience! I think about my time there pretty much every day in some way.

    I'm not sure which ones you are referring to, but there will be 1 or 2 for any toilets, the ones on outside were for rainwater downpipes, the one on balcony is drainage, im sure there are some bathrooms with drainage too. and the tiny ones are electrical conduits.

    @@bmformworkconcreteconstruc9783 just curious to know the reason why is this pipe not going straight through the slab downwards to the lower level? Instead it is bent 3-4 times within the slab with 90 degree joints. in case these joints do leak or break due to the expansion/contraction of concrete, wouldn't the leak cause rain water seepage into concrete and cause destruction?

    I’m thinking of not to use wood sheets to do my houses concrete slab. It is much to expensive if you use it only one time. In Germany we use “slab - blocks”. I can’t find them here in Panama so far. Maybe I have to use something else instead.

    Use 15ga nail gun nails and set depth correct, you won't see them.

    It's galvanised strips of metal to stop the bonding of concrete to bricks and allow movement during expansion variations between conc and bricks. We use 2 layers. Some people grease between the layers

    Hi Ivan, the brick walls support the slab. If the walls or balconies are much larger then we will have beams. And if no brick walls, then we will have columns.

    @@bmformworkconcreteconstruc9783 Is that thin brick wall support sufficient ? What would happen if the slightest earthquake shakes the ground ? I'm asking because here in Bulgaria the columns are considered as the main support for the slab while the brickwork is more like a filling .

    @@IvanChepanovvankata87 I noticed the way you guys build when I travelled Europe. I thought it was mostly done to speed up the building process and add the brickwork after. Sometimes we do this here. To answer your question, we don't have earthquakes, also the walls are actually quite strong, some have steel rods in them, and often they will have a steel column inside the wall. So they do take measures to prevent lateral movement I guess. We also naturally have resources here for making cheap quality bricks so I think that is the main factor. Bricks are the cheapest way to build here.
