How To Build A Paludarium w/ Enclosed Water Basin

Hey! Thanks for checking out my new channel and debut video!
This is a paludarium build that I am very proud to present and show off all the great plant growth! and my Blue Jean, Oophaga Pumilio!
The main water feature construction and of the water basins, that are enclosed and not open to the rest of the terrariums floor, have been something that I have tried and tested in a few different ways now and have come to this method being the most secure and easiest applied in many different sizes. I also would love to give credit and a huge shoutout to Biotope Gallery for helping me hone in my builds by sharing the amazing works that he produces. We both have similar styles and techniques that I do appreciate and love to see.
I have very much enjoyed this lil hobby that I've stumbled in to, and love to share my builds and experiences, if you would like to or have any questions that please ask any questions!
Thank you and please consider subscribing maybe, and if you want to see more forgs! and other snakes, builds and plants, I have an IG account under the same name and profile :D
Cheers!

    Hello! I just saw your Paladarium! Its *AWESOME*!! Can you tell me more about the plants you put in there? I'm trying to re-do my Leopard gecko's tank{just got a 120-gal. Tank} and want to go with More LIVE plants, put in a small waterfall/drinking feature for him, put in a "clean-up crew", and a complete dirt/sand/Saphram moss{think I spelled it wrong! Sorry! Lol} substrate on bottom, to put my plants in. I've already introduced him to some LIVE Succulent plants & he *LOVES* them!❤️🌱 I would Appreciate ANY "Suggestions"/"Help" You could Offer! Thank You!🤗

    I really like it. What are the benefits of an enclosed water feature? Also what are the two inlets / outlets at the back for? (the two white pipes installed at ground level on the far sides of the terrarium?). Thanks, it looks amazing

    I've been looking everywhere in Arizona for the black plastic/foam board stuff. I know you can't use certain craft store types because it's not waterproof but I seriously can't figure out where to buy it. If you're in the US where did you buy it?

    This is a year old, but figured I may as well ask. What is the difference in foam with your 2 drainage layers? The 2nd layer looks less coarse, I don't know if that was intentional and if so for what reason. Regardless, this is such a cool build! I love the water feature in the middle idea and actually may fit in well with one that I'm working on now

  • @troysefff

    @troysefff

    5 ай бұрын

    Hey, I lost access to this account, im on my other one, the difference in those two layers is the foams pore size, I use the course on the bottom and the fine on top, allows for better water flow, and the fine atop keeps the soil up there from falling in.

    Great build! I'm going to be doing one in a similar Biotope gallery style I'm curious why you decided to use coco fiber/husk for your substrate/silicon concealment. In my experience I've only had it last about 2-4 years before it decomposes and turns to mud in the drainage layer or falls off the background. Biotope gallery uses peat moss since it is acidic and live moss will grow on it ten times better than coco fiber. How is the moss growing on your build so far?

  • @shazrilidrees2161

    Do you mean peat moss is better than coco fiber for paludarium?

  • @othernaturenate

    @othernaturenate

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@shazrilidrees2161 for the background, yes, but as a planting substrate it can become waterlogged. If it is drained well on the background it is a better concealment medium for silicone since live moss grows on it better than coco fiber.

    @@othernaturenate i have another question. What would be best for paludarium, using foam sponge as a base or using pebbles?

  • @othernaturenate

    @othernaturenate

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@shazrilidrees2161 Either can work well if the sponge has a ppi of 20 or greater. Eventually, however, it will get impacted with substrate and detritus. If weight is a concern then sponge can be a good option. I prefer hardwood lump charcoal or activated carbon stratified with lava rock pebbles. Lava rock won't degrade over time and slowly releases nutrients like potassium and phosphorus for the plants while still being lightweight, well draining, and good filtration medium. I have seen all three materials used together with good success as well.

    What is the black sheet that you cut in the beginning? I’ve tried messaging biotope gallery about it but I haven’t gotten a response. I would really appreciate it because I’m holding off from my build until I know this information!

  • @newport_exotics5575

    @newport_exotics5575

    Hey, sorry for the late reply, but that is called Foamex, or expanded PVC sheet. Took me about 3 months to find a good source for it in my area, but half of that was searching for what it was called, then Biotope got back to me in a comment I left, and he confirmed it was foamex that he uses as well. You can use the lighter stuff that cuts more like foam, or you can use the hard sheet that I use here if its a larger build. Look for a custom plastics fabricator near you, if you walk in and explain, they might give you free scrap pieces that are more than enough to use for this application.
