I always get a sense of belonging somewhere else from these things, I don't know why. It's just beautiful. Honestly, the best thing about these videos is just watching someone cut trough foam so soft and easy.😂 It's so satisfying!

*that foam cutter thing is just soooo satisfying to watch*

Placing damp rags over the plaster while it's still mud like will keep it in that state and allow you more time to put details into the area you're working on. If you need a break, wrap the piece in damp towels and put inside a trash bag and close it tight, it'll stay malleable and allow you to work it later.

actually, it depends on what you're going for. if your going for a rugged rocky mountain, then what he did was perfect because plaster, clay, or anything malleable is usually soft and smooth when messed with but what he did is let it harden so it could be made more rugged and rock-like.

@@chickencouch9850 The idea is that the damp rags gives him more working time with the clay so he can be relaxed and work on the details and take breaks. If plastic sheeting is placed over top of the work after the damp rags are added and it's held down around it this will allow the moisture to stay in the clay much longer when not being worked on.

Brilliant!! The only suggestion I would like to add would be to paint the sweet little canoe to look like wood. I also LOVE that you reused a broken fish bowl - as opposed to throwing it in a landfill! Fantastic and a GREAT example to everyone. Thanks so much for your amazing creativity!

I would've gone with the denser pink foam, and made the island out of horizontal layers. Then, for a rocky texture, you can just beat it with a chunk of concrete instead. I'm not quite patient enough to sculpt all that detail.

Plaster dry too quickly, like it two minutes. So we can start working on it after 5 minutes.

Nice background music

This how to video did not show me the one part that I wanted to see. The modeling is easy enough, and not unlike so many other examples on youtube. I watched it to learn how to make it "float". But the video doesn't really show that part. Apparently it has something to do with fishing line and a washer. Held from below? Held from above? Suspended from the ceiling or a hook of some kind? And how did you shoot the images without the fishing line showing? It's pretty. I'd like to do something similar. But how?

He probably (like you said) use the wire to support the diorama up and the wire was attached to something like a wall or a cupboard. He didn't show the full image and extra of the island so you couldn't see the wire which would sort of ruin it.
