How to build a chicken run and raised bed garden
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This DIY chicken run and raised bed garden are a perfect accompaniment to our DIY chicken coop. The robust fencing keeps the chickens safe from preditors, while the raised beds shade them from the sun and rain. It has plenty of room to grow vegetables and there's even room for compost bins.

Thanks so much! We had a bunch of ideas for how to combine a coop, a run, and a garden and we're really proud of how everything turned out. We're so glad you like it.
I absolutely love your builds. Rugged and built for the outdoors to withstand anything elements and predators can throw at it. I'm learning so much here. Thank you!

Thank you so much! We're thrilled to hear that you find our content so useful. It surely motivates us to continue building the best projects we can.
Nice idea for a few chickens and small garden In your parents yard. I would have a door for clean out on the outer wall (out side of the run) . Its very nicely built.

Thanks for the feedback. We're glad you like the build! Great suggestion for putting a clean out door on the outside. We love that a design like this can be tweaked to suit different needs and ideas.
This is such a great coop, is there a blueprint of this project? If so where can it be found? I just found this channel and looking forward to watching more. Great job.

We're so glad you liked this project! We didn't create detailed drawings of it, but we did share a 3D model that you can pan/zoom/rotate and section. We hope that that gives you a better feel for more of the details. The model and a bit of a write up can be found here (note - you'll have to create a free login to access this. It's the community where SOLIDWORKS users share the things they've made): r1132100503382-eu1-3dswym.3dexperience.3ds.com/#community:17/post:EuNqY9cGRiKbkUdGhN1gAA For scale reference, the coop is 3' by 4' and the overall footprint of the whole project is 8' by 12'.
Are the 2x4 and 2x2 segments built 1 extrude at a time? or some cool custom weldment stuff under the hood?

All of the 2-by material was modeled with SOLIDWORKS Weldments functionality using a set of profiles I built. I have a small library for 1-by, 2-by, and 4-by stock. It makes designing things like this way faster!

@@ournextmake Phew!, manually extruding each one would be a nighmare, did you use indent to create the connections?
It's a different concept, but it doesn't work, why take space away from the chickens? Especially if the chickens are not going to free range, it's a coop with a chicken tunnel, not a fan.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. If we were only building a chicken coop and run, then of course we would give the chicken all the square footage per your suggestion. However, this design was to address a combined need of a garden and a coop in the same footprint. So we gave the chickens a run under the shade of the raised garden. For two hens, they seem quite happy with the space they have for a run.

@ournextmake like I said, not a fan, if it was a true symbiotic set up, I would have loved it, but this takes away from the chickens and the plants.
