here is the steps :
AThe ideal bottle has a short neck so the plug can quickly access the main body of the bottle.
Wide bottles maintain their water level longer, giving the roots more opportunity to grow into the nutrient solution before the water level drops
Bottle Preparation:
First wash and Remove any labels from the bottle
I use soap and Hot water
Next you need a tape and black spray paint
Add a strip of tape along the side
This will be removed later to create a viewing window for the roots
Funnel
spray the bottles
Remove the tape strip once the paint dries
Nutrient Solution
You can use a fertilizer designed for hydroponic gardens. In this garden I’m going to use organic liquid fertilizer
Fully fill the bottle with nutrient solution
Leave enough stone wool above the neck of the bottle to make plug removal easy when refilling the bottle.
Most of the crops that are appropriate for hydroponic bottles are fast growing and may not require a lot of maintenance during their growth cycle.

Love these ideas, I use plastic bottles such as cola 1.5 or 2 litre ones, cutting the top off & inverting, adding holes with a hot skewer (not for kids!) I have also added a slightly larger hole, high up on water container add added a small pump with air stone, this did improve the growth of lettuce but without worked too. I had to top up with nutrient water plus every 2 weeks I did a complete water/nutrient change, you have mentioned this? Did you do that? Also, you haven’t shown how to do this from seed & I’ve found that most demos don’t show how to start off with a seed, that would be really useful

Onions don't do well here because of the soil temperature. Maybe painting the bottles white might help with that. We have an average of 30 degrees Celsius as high as 40. :)

Now most of the hydroponic research is focused on these circulating systems, but there are still horticulturists experimenting with static noncirculating hydroponics. One of the most vocal proponents of noncirculating hydroponics is Dr. Bernard Kratky of the University of Hawaii. He has done so much to continue the development of noncirculating hydroponics that his name has become synonymous with the technique . . . the Kratky method. Crops The Kratky method has been successfully used to grow a wide range of crops, from leafy greens like lettuce to flowering crops like tomatoes and potatoes. Most hydroponic gardeners prefer to grow leafy greens and herbs with the Kratky method because the larger crops may struggle with inadequate oxygen levels in their root The Kratky method is the easiest hydroponic growing technique. No pumps, no complex irrigation systems . . . just plants sitting in water. Most of the early hydroponic research focused on static water systems like the Kratky method. These systems worked, but, as scientists tend to do, they kept experimenting and eventually found there was an increase in plant growth rate when the nutrient solution was aerated. This discovery spurred the development of circulating hydroponic systems with increased aeration, like nutrient film technique (NFT) and top drip irrigation.
