Welcome Back to the Channel Ya Kookz! Today we are building a bed frame in the Ford Transit. We wanted to find an easy way to build a bed frame in a van conversion that was simple and easy to replicate. We also needed plenty of storage under the bed frame for bikes, a battery bank, and the water tanks. We found this style of bed frame pretty straightforward and easy to assemble.
We hope this helps you with designing a bed for your van conversion.

Even trying to be so mindful, we still wasted so much money on wood mistakes and such. Wood adds up quick!

Especially these days…. That’s why making templates out of cheap material and cardboard helps save cost and materials. Making a few cardboard templates can really show you how it can all come together.

Idea: I want my van to be a 4 season van, so I would need to insulate batteries and water tank and hoses in the winter. How about putting thick insulating foam under and on the van frame outside portion of the batteries and the water tank to begin with? Then it would be easier to cover them with insulation in the winter.

  • @Vankookz

I would definitely insulate them as good as you can. If they are in the back of the van like this one you will want to over do it. The customer told us this van would never be in the cold so we didn't insulate much. Also she has heat enabled batteries.

I'm building out a Medium Roof Ford Transit and I Used the Window Bumpouts to accommodate the Length of the Bed (along with elevating the head of the Bed and using a modified Cot frame as a base).

I want to have semi-exposed insulation to double as padding for the head in the foot of the bed, perhaps covered with some kind of aesthetically appealing fabric or something like that.

My mattress was found curbside in Berkeley California and it was from Ikea and fits the card frame perfectly. I decided to stack the moving blankets I travel with under the mattress and over the frame as extra padding, and as a prevention from castrating myself getting out of the bed.

I was curious to see those windows on the back doors!? Wondering what after market windows were added? Love to have windows that open in the rear for cross breeze as my van is window free except for the windows up front in the cab. Great build Kookz!
