    Hello, great video, I'm actually in the building of our "tour" van and your shower/toilet almost mirrors what I'm building. With exceptions of the shower pan drain being on the left side and having an actual bathroom fan. I'm using a cassette type toilet with a locking base, like you I don't want to drill the floor pan so what I used was three wide strips of Velcro. Doing it again I'd use only two as its pretty aggressive to get the toilet out. Great build, I'll look into some other videos you two have made. Thanks Robert in Canada

    A couple of well-placed suction cups would probably do the job. One in the front, and two in the back corners on the bottom of your collection bin. That will keep it from scooting around, and still leave an extra lip out to be able to pop a seal and get it out easily. I would suggest a 3in suction cup. Just super glue them to the bottom of the tank.

I'm happy to see it's been done before. :) A few ideas for your loo - 1. you could use velcro to the back wall, or maybe there are clips available to secure the lid down, like a baby proofing latch maybe? just so that if it does move, then at least the lid stays closed. Hey @mathersonthemap - this video is awesome, has really helped me solve the problem of being able to have a nature's head without having to worry about compromising on a water tight shower. Question though, as you aren't bolting the toilet down and they recommend, how did you end up securing the toilet? Did you get movement? Also, do you find that the fan ensure you get no smell? Thanks!

  • @daveyy_ohh
    @daveyy_ohh3 жыл бұрын

    I would just create some sort of pillow or block that you insert (shove/place) in front of the toilet keep it pinned between the front/back wall. Driving is the only time you need to worry about it moving so making the bathroom "non-operable" isn't a big deal. Then when you need to use the toilet take out the pillow/ block and use the john. Also I would line the bottom of the toilet with rubber so when you sit on the it, it doesn't move/ ruin the flooring of the shower.

    Have really enjoyed watching your detailed build videos. I would do some things differently, for example, I don't feel so comfortable using steel framing and would rather use 80/20, but not criticizing. For this shower design, it fits my preferences very closely. I like the way you handle the hose and power wire for the toilet, hiding it away while showering. I have not yet searched the comments for the suggestions on ways to lock down the toilet without putting more holes in the shower pan. Great question!

    I do like your shower and I think FRP is better than trying to tile the shower. The tile and grout could be a maintenance issue as it needs to be cleaned and the wall will get bumped as you shower. I was concerned just a little flex and the brittle grout might crack. The Water pressure looks more than adequate.

    Another great video! Now that I am just starting my build, I am even more impressed that you continue to make these “teaching”videos! Thank you!! Your van is looking so good! I love what you did in the shower with the step and the marine hatch! Great ideas! That’s is a really good solution for an aspect of the nature’s head that bugged me! I’m curious to know why you couldn’t do a teak base under your toilet? Is it because it would make the floor too high and the shower not tall enough for you? If so, Could you remove it when you take out the toilet? Looking back would you have built the shower on the van floor so it would allow more height? Thanks again for making such detailed videos!!

  • @MathersOnTheMap

    Thank you Sherry!!! I think if I were to do it over again I would have bought a 24x24 shower pan and then where the ledge is I would have build an elevate platform for the natures head. Im not sure though. Also I was thinking about putting a teak in the shower pan but I am afraid of it puncturing it and then I'll have bigger problems. I can't put it along the top edge of the shower pan because I put the hydroban and FRP over it to prevent and water seaming through. Do you mean securing the shower pan directly to the van floor not the sub floor? Im not sure, I doubt it since it would be difficult to get it perfectly level.

Question about on your video, you have your shower pan up against both sides and the front of the walls before you put on your Backing board and FRP board. This will make it hangover the lip of the shower pan correct? Also, on the steel studs for the back wall did you screw directly into the ribbing of the van? Thanks for your help!
