A great step by step video on how to make a Bamboo Trekking / Walking Pole. These are great for taking on hikes and backing, light weight and easy to make. A great project to show of to your friends.

For those less DIY inclined folks who do not have a blow torch or cannot find bamboo in the wild, you can skip the first 4 minutes of this video by just buying some finished bamboo fishing poles from your local sporting good store, or getting them from the garden section at Lowe's and cutting them to size. However, that handle wrap is damn nice.
Nice work! I bet those would easily sell at flea markets, small town arts festivals and specialty shops.
Great vid man. Thbaks
Nice pole, have you ever drilled out the first chamber from the top to store fishing line, water proof matches, etc in the top and then put a plug in the top? Also, does tempering the bamboo make it stiffer or stronger?
Great idea could you next time make two videos instead of speeding it up that fast that it is impossible to learn and follow thanks
Bamboo takes 3 years to mature, and the hardness and thickness of the walls is superior to a "green" cane. Also, make any cuts just above or below the nodes so the ends are solid. Do not make any cuts at the internode where the wood is weakest and can accumulate mud or water while in use.
Camera too far away from work. No way to figure out what you were doing. No close up on end result.
now I know how to make that cool paracord wrap (NOT!)
